ROSÉ

Three years ago...

"I'm coming home, coming home," Rosé sang as she blew on her fingernails. Her newly painted nails were finally dry. "Tell the world I'm coming home..."

She tapped her fingers on the steering wheel as she listened to the song playing in her car. She was stuck in traffic, one of the things she hated most about her daily commute, but she wasn't even irritated. She was feeling good. She had woken up feeling great. The headache she had from partying the night before with her classmates was almost gone. And to top it all off, she was about to see her very pretty girlfriend, Jisoo.

It was also the first time she would be visiting her Chichu at her apartment. It was supposed to be a surprise visit, as she couldn't wait to tell her that she would be coming home with her to Korea.

They had been going out for months. She was in love. Deeply in love. She was even willing to go on a vacation to Korea, not wanting to miss her Chichu too much. She knew that in a year, Jisoo would be returning to Korea for good, while she still needed to sort out her life and finish school here.

"Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday," she sang again. "I know my kingdom awaits, and they've forgiven my mistakes. I'm coming home, I'm coming home. Tell the world I'm coming home..."

She still hadn't told Jisoo her real identity. Yes, she had lied to her girlfriend. She wasn't a music student; she was a business major. And, this would sound bad, but she had given her a false name too. When they first met, she had told Jisoo that her name was Chaeyoung Park. Her real name was Roseanne Park Kim. At first, she hadn't been serious about getting to know the beautiful older Korean woman, so she gave her a false identity. She figured they would just go out once or twice and have a little fun. She hadn't expected them to fall for each other. But she fell. Hard. Fast. And crazily in love.

Now she wanted to tell Jisoo everything. She knew her girlfriend loved her and hoped that it would be enough for her to understand when she explained why she had lied. Her name and major aside, everything else she had told Jisoo was true, and everything else was exactly what she wanted to be—a musician, free, brave, and happy.

They had been going out for almost three months. That was the longest relationship she had ever had. And truth be told, it was only her second relationship. She had dated before, but the only girlfriend she had ever had was back in junior high. It barely even counted as a serious one. With Jisoo, everything was just...different. It was more, and it was all so wonderful.

She was so smitten. Jisoo was smart, focused, and very sure of herself. She had direction in life. Rosé wanted to be like that. Jisoo reminded her a lot of her older sister, Jennie.

Her Jennie Unnie, the favorite child. She loved her Unnie with all her heart. But being compared to a perfect sister all her life, she had to admit she harbored some resentment and jealousy.
