A Night OutThe practice had gone well, and the team was in high spirits as they left the rink.
Y/N was packing up their gear when Lynn approached, a bit hesitant but determined.
"Hey, Y/N," Lynn began, shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "I was wondering if you had any plans tonight?"
Y/N looked up, curious. "Not really. Why?"
"Luna's band is playing a gig downtown," Lynn explained. "I thought it might be fun if you came along. You know, to relax a bit after practice."
Y/N smiled, touched by the invitation. "That sounds great, Lynn. I'd love to come."
"Awesome!...I mean nice.." Lynn replied, her face lighting up. "Luna will be picking us up in about an hour."
An hour later, the van came.
Y/N and Lynn climbed in, greeted by the familiar chaos of Luna's bandmates and instruments.
"Hey, dudes!" Luna called from the driver's seat. "Ready to rock?"
"Absolutely," Y/N replied, settling into the back seat.
Just as they were about to leave, Lincoln, Luna's younger brother, exchanged seats, squeezing into the space next to Y/N. "Hey, Y/N," Lincoln said with a grin. "Did anyone ever tell you that you have the coolest job ever?"
Y/N chuckled, amused by Lincoln's attempt at flirting. "Thanks, Lincoln. I guess it has its moments."
Lincoln leaned in closer, clearly trying to make an impression. "You know, I could probably show you a few cool places around town. If you're interested, of course."
Before Y/N could respond, Lynn leaned over from the front seat, her tone firm but polite. "Lincoln, Y/N's here to enjoy the gig. Let's keep the focus on that, okay?"
Lincoln blinked, a bit taken aback but quickly recovering. "Sure, Lynn, no problem. Just thought I'd offer."
They arrived at the venue, a small but lively club bustling with energy. Inside, the music was loud, and the atmosphere was electric. Luna's band took the stage, and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Y/N and Lynn found a spot near the stage, enjoying the music. Lincoln was still nearby, attempting to keep Y/N's attention with more stories and jokes.Suddenly, out of nowhere, Eddie appeared, weaving through the crowd with his usual grin. "Hey, Y/N!" he called out, surprising everyone.
"Eddie?" Y/N exclaimed. "What are you doing here?"
"I heard about Luna's gig and thought I'd check it out," Eddie replied, giving Y/N a playful nudge.
Lynn's expression darkened as she watched Eddie effortlessly join the conversation, drawing Y/N's attention away from Lincoln. The easy banter between Y/N and Eddie only made Lynn's jealousy flare.
As the music played on, Y/N seemed to be enjoying herself more and more, caught up in the energy of the night and the presence of friends. Lynn couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration.
She had hoped to have Y/N hang out with her only, but now Eddie was here, charming and impossible to ignore.
After the set ended, Luna came over, beaming with excitement. "Thanks for coming, guys!" she said, hugging Y/N and Lynn. "What did you think?"
"You were amazing, Luna," Y/N replied enthusiastically. "I'm so glad I came."
Lynn forced a smile, trying to push down her jealousy. "Yeah, it was great," she said, her eyes drifting to Y/N and Eddie, who were already deep in conversation again.
As the night wore on, Lynn found herself watching from the sidelines, feeling more and more like an outsider.
She knew she needed to step up her game if she wanted to get closer to Y/N, especially with Eddie around.
On the drive home, Luna glanced in the rearview mirror and noticed Lynn's somber expression. She didn't say anything immediately but made a mental note.
After dropping Y/N and the others off, Luna turned to Lynn, who was sitting quietly in the passenger seat. "Hey, you okay?" Luna asked gently.
Lynn sighed, looking out the window. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just... a lot on my mind."
Luna nodded, driving in silence for a few more minutes before pulling over to a quiet spot. She turned off the engine and faced Lynn. "You wanna talk about it?"
Lynn hesitated, then shook her head. "It's nothing, really."
Luna gave her a knowing look. "Come on, Lynn. I can tell something's bothering you. You can talk to me."
Lynn fidgeted with her hands, clearly uncomfortable. "It's just... Eddie showed up, and it felt like... I don't know, like I got pushed to the side. I wanted to spend time with Y/N, but it didn't really work out that way."
Luna nodded understandingly. "It's tough when someone else comes in and steals the spotlight. But hey, it's clear that Y/N enjoys your company. Maybe you just need to find another moment, a better one."
Lynn looked at Luna, feeling a bit embarrassed for opening up. "Thanks, Luna. "
Luna assured her with a smile. "Just be yourself. Y/N will notice. And next time, we'll make sure it's just you two."
Lynn smiled back, feeling a bit lighter. "Thanks, Luna. I needed that."
"Anytime, sis," Luna replied, starting the engine again. "Let's get home."
As they drove back, Lynn felt a renewed sense of determination. She wouldn't let jealousy get the better of her. She would find her moment with Y/N and make it count.
