The next day at hockey practice, Y/N was still buzzing with excitement from Eddie asking her to the Spring Fling. She arrived at the rink with a spring in her step, ready to share the news with her teammates.
Lynn was the first to notice Y/N's unusually cheerful demeanor.
"Hey, Y/N! You look like you won the lottery or something. What's up?"
Y/N grinned, unable to contain her excitement. "Eddie asked me to the Spring Fling last night!"
The entire team, who had been warming up on the ice, immediately stopped what they were doing and skated over to Y/N.
"No way!" Sarah exclaimed. "That's amazing, Y/N! Congrats!"
Y/N laughed, feeling a bit embarrassed but also thrilled. "Yeah, well, I'm just glad he finally asked."
Lynn put her arm around Y/N's shoulders, her smile a bit strained.
"You two are going to be the best-looking couple there. I'm happy for you."
Margo skated over, her eyes wide with excitement.
"That's awesome, Y/N! You and Eddie are going to have the best time. Have you thought about your dress yet?"
Zia, usually more reserved, nodded in agreement. "It's great that Eddie finally asked you. You guys make a cute couple."
The rest of the team chimed in with their congratulations and teasing remarks.
It was clear that everyone was genuinely happy for Y/N, except for Lynn, who was trying her best to hide her jealousy.
"Alright, alright," Coach said, clapping her hands to get everyone's attention.
"Enough chatter. Let's get back to practice. We've got a game to prepare for."
The team dispersed, getting back into their drills with renewed energy.
As they practiced, Y/N couldn't help but notice that Eddie was paying extra attention to her, offering encouragement and support at every turn.
"Great pass, Y/N!" Eddie called out during a drill. "Keep it up!"
Y/N felt a warmth in her chest every time Eddie cheered her on.
It was clear that their growing relationship was not only making her happier but also boosting her performance on the ice.
Meanwhile, Lynn watched from a distance, her expression a mix of frustration and sadness.
After practice, as the team gathered in the locker room, the conversation quickly shifted back to the Spring Fling.
"So, Y/N," Sarah said, leaning against her locker, "have you decided what you're going to wear?"
Y/N shrugged, still riding the high of Eddie's invitation. "Not yet. I guess I should start thinking about it."
Margo chimed in. "We should go shopping this weekend. Find something that'll knock Eddie's socks off."
The entire team agreed, offering their help and suggestions.
Y/N felt incredibly grateful to have such supportive friends, though she couldn't help but notice the forced cheer in Lynn's voice.
Margo grinned. "We could make a whole day of it. Lunch, shopping, and maybe even a little pampering. What do you think, Y/N?"
Y/N nodded enthusiastically. "That sounds perfect. Thanks, guys."
Zia added quietly, "You deserve to have the best night, Y/N. We're here for you."
As they wrapped up and headed out of the locker room, Eddie caught up to Y/N. "Hey, do you need a ride home?"
Y/N smiled. "Sure, that'd be great."
Lynn watched them leave together, her heart sinking.
She had always been competitive, but this felt different.
She wasn't used to feeling this mix of envy and longing.
On the drive home, Eddie glanced over at Y/N. "So, how did the team take the news?"
Y/N laughed. "They were all really happy for us. I think they saw it coming before we did."
Eddie grinned. "Well, I'm glad. I just want everything to be perfect."
Y/N reached over and squeezed his hand. "It already is, Eddie. Thanks for making this so special."
As they pulled up to Y/N's house, she leaned over and gave Eddie a quick kiss on the cheek. "See you tomorrow."
Eddie blushed but smiled widely. "See you tomorrow, Y/N."
Y/N watched him drive away, feeling a sense of contentment and excitement for the future.
With Eddie by her side and the Spring Fling to look forward to, everything seemed to be falling into place perfectly.
Meanwhile, Lynn sat in her room, staring at the ceiling.
She knew she should be happy for Y/N, but she couldn't shake the feeling of jealousy.
She had to find a way to deal with it, but for now, all she could do was try to push it to the back of her mind.
