Today, we explore a profound hadith narrated by Aisha رضي الله عنها, shedding light on the dedication of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the night prayer:

Aisha رضي الله عنها narrated: "I did not see the Prophet ﷺ reciting the Qur'an in the night prayer while sitting except when he became old; when he used to recite while sitting, and when thirty or forty verses remained from the Surah, he would get up and recite them and then bow." (Sahih Al Bukhari, Hadith Number 1148)

Let's reflect on the insights and benefits from this hadith:

1. Prophet's Diligence in Worship: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was unparalleled in his devotion to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ, especially in performing the night prayer. Despite his advanced age, he maintained his commitment to recite the Quran extensively during the night prayers, reflecting his deep reverence and dedication to worship.

2. Completion of Recitation Standing: Even in old age, the Prophet ﷺ would stand to complete his recitation of the Quran in the night prayer. This act highlights his humility and submission to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ, ensuring that his transition from standing to bowing (ruku) and prostration (sujood) was in the most reverent manner.

3. Permissibility of Sitting in Prayer: This hadith establishes the permissibility of sitting during voluntary prayers, even for those capable of standing. It underscores the Prophet's practical example of adapting worship practices to maintain spiritual devotion and fulfillment.

4. Prolonged Recitation in Night Prayer: The Prophet's practice of reciting extensive portions of the Quran during night prayers emphasizes the importance of contemplation and connection with Allah's words. This serves as a model for believers to engage deeply with the Quran in their worship.

May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ grant us the steadfastness and devotion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in our worship. May He accept our prayers and efforts, and guide us on the path of righteousness.
