Embrace the Blessings of the Last Third of the Night
Today, we are reminded of the profound significance of the last third of the night through a beautiful hadith narrated by Amr ibn Abasah:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The closest the servant is to the Lord is during the last depth of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah in this moment, then do so.”
(Sunan Al Tirmidhi, Hadith Number 3579)
Reflections on the Hadith:
1. Closeness to Allah: This hadith highlights the great virtue of remembering Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ during the depths of the night, a time when we are closest to our Lord. It is in these moments that we can seek His forgiveness and favor with sincerity.
2. Encouragement to Remember Allah: The Prophet ﷺ's use of imperative language emphasizes the importance of seizing this opportunity. He encourages us to engage in remembrance, which not only draws us nearer to Allah but also enriches our spiritual lives.
3. Alignment with the Quran: This teaching beautifully aligns with the words of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ in Surah Luqman (Chapter 31, Verses 16-17), where He describes the believers who abandon their beds to invoke their Lord with hope and fear. Such dedication is rewarded with delights beyond imagination.
