Today, we want to share a profound hadith that highlights the immense value of reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112) during our Tahajjud prayers, as conveyed by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Narrated by Abu Sa’id al-Khudri:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said to his companions, “Is it difficult for one of you to recite a third of the Quran in a single night?”
This posed a challenge for them, and they responded, “Which one of us can do that, O Messenger of Allah?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied, “The chapter, ‘Allah, the One, the Refuge’ (112:1) is worth one-third of the Quran.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Bukhari, Hadith Number 4727)
Benefits from the Hadith:
1. Blessings of Quran Recitation: The recitation of the Quran is filled with blessings and rewards. It serves as the rope of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ, providing tranquility and peace to the heart and soul.
2. The Unique Virtue of Surah Al-Ikhlas: Allah has specifically chosen Surah Al-Ikhlas, equating it to a third of the Quran. This Surah encapsulates two of Allah’s سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ names that represent His perfection: Al-Ahad (The One and Only) and As-Samad (The Eternal Satisfier of Needs).
- Al-Ahad signifies that Allah is unique in His perfection, with no partners or equals.
- As-Samad indicates that Allah is the ultimate source of all needs, being completely free of any need Himself.
3. Allah’s Generosity: This hadith illustrates Allah’s سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ immense grace and generosity towards His slaves. By making a shorter Surah hold such significant reward, He facilitates our journey towards righteousness.
As we incorporate Tahajjud into our nightly worship, let us remember the greatness of Surah Al-Ikhlas and strive to recite it with sincerity. It not only brings us closer to Allah but also enriches our prayers with profound meaning.
May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ accept our efforts and reward us abundantly.
