I stood there, slightly taken aback, as a few seconds after Jake's abrupt call, there was a knock on my door. Opening it, I found four people standing there, all smiling at me—Jake, Heeseung, Ni-ki, and someone I hadn't interacted with yet, their leader, Jungwon. Initially surprised, I quickly mirrored their smiles and welcomed them into my apartment.
"Hello, Chloe, right?" Jungwon greeted me first. "We haven't really met yet. I'm Jungwon. Nice to finally meet you in person."
"Chloe, nice to meet you too," I replied, shaking his hand warmly. "Seems like I've become a topic of conversation among you all," I added with a playful tone.
Suddenly, Ni-ki chimed in with a completely serious tone, "Well, Heeseung and Jake do like to talk about you." Heeseung avoided eye contact, and Jake glanced between us with a perplexed expression. I couldn't quite read the situation.
Ni-ki continued, "Yesterday, when I wanted to play games with Heeseung, he wouldn't put his phone down even though he promised to game with me. Turns out, he was texting Chloe." He whispered this last part to Jungwon, who stood beside him, grinning mischievously at Heeseung.
It was said loud enough for all of us to hear, and Jake kept shifting his gaze between Heeseung and me. "Did you exchange numbers?" Jake asked, his curiosity piqued.
I looked at him, taken slightly off guard. "Oh, no. We coincidentally connected on Instagram and exchanged a few messages," I explained quickly.
Jake nodded in response, processing the information silently. Ni-ki then interjected again, "Chloe, let's exchange Insta and numbers!"
"Um, sure, if you want to," I laughed nervously, feeling a bit amused and flustered by the sudden turn of events.
I noticed Jungwon observing everything attentively. Perhaps he was still a bit skeptical about me and wanted to form his own impression. As the leader of a successful group, it made sense to be cautious—scandals weren't uncommon in the industry and could complicate things.
Ni-ki and I exchanged contact information, and the atmosphere eased into a more relaxed vibe. Heeseung finally spoke up, trying to lighten the mood. "Chloe, I hope we're not intruding. We wanted to drop by and say thanks for coming to the concert and hanging out with us."
I smiled warmly. "No, not at all! It's really nice of you all to come by. I had an amazing time at the concert. You guys were incredible."
Jake nodded appreciatively. "We're glad you enjoyed it. We wanted to make sure you felt welcomed here."
Heeseung chuckled softly. "And I see Ni-ki has already found a new gaming partner," he teased, nudging Ni-ki playfully.
Ni-ki grinned. "Chloe, you'll have to join us sometime."
I laughed, feeling more at ease with each passing moment. Despite the initial surprise of their visit, it felt natural having them in my space, like friends dropping by unexpectedly.
As we chatted and joked, I noticed how each of them brought a different energy to the group—Jake's calm reassurance, Heeseung's playful banter, Ni-ki's infectious enthusiasm, and Jungwon's quiet but observant presence. They were more than just idols; they were genuine individuals with their own personalities and quirks.
After some time, Ni-ki suggested ordering food, and we settled into a cozy evening of sharing stories and laughter. It was surreal, sitting in my living room with Enhypen, enjoying a casual evening together as if they were longtime friends.
As the night wore on, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the unexpected friendships formed during my time in Seoul. These were moments I would treasure forever—proof that sometimes, the most extraordinary experiences come from the most unexpected encounters.
Eventually, they bid me goodnight, promising to stay in touch. I closed the door behind them, feeling a mix of emotions—gratitude, joy, and a hint of sadness knowing my time in Seoul was drawing to a close. Yet, as I looked around my apartment, filled with echoes of laughter and warmth from their visit, I knew that this chapter had left an indelible mark on my heart.
Tomorrow, I would leave Seoul with a suitcase full of memories and newfound friendships, knowing that this city and its people had welcomed me with open arms and made me feel at home in ways I never imagined possible.
Or not?
