Chapter 1

Ivy

*Flashback*

"Niall I think you should audition" I tried to convince him.

"I don't think I'll win" He replied with a weird voice.

"Why not? I think you are a great singer."

He laughed, "You are supposed to say that Ivy, you're my cousin."

"No" I told him, "I really do think so" I replied honestly.

Niall was a really good singer. I think he has a real shot at winning the X factor. He, of course being humble, thinks he'd lose. He's wanted to audition for a while now. He hasn't really built up the confidence to do it yet.

Niall had given me a weird look before he said, "Well, I signed up and auditions are in 2 weeks."

I jumped up excitedly. "What! Niall why didn't you tell me? When are we leaving?"

"Woah, woah, calm down," he said nervously, scratching his head. "It's actually just me and my parents going. You can't come."

He looked up at me right as I felt my heart break. We had talked about me coming with him ever since he first started talking about auditioning. We did everything together. 

"What do you mean I can't come?" I asked him trying to stay calm.

"I...uhh...don't know?" He tried to lie as he put his head down.

"You aren't so convincing right now. Just tell me. We're best friends." I pleaded.

He nervously looked up and said, "I wanted you to come. Your dad said no. I wasn't supposed to tell you the reason why. Your mum asked me not to because she didn't want you to be mad at your dad."

My dad never lets me leave the house. I have two older brothers and he prefers them over me. I'm looked at as a burden. He never wanted a girl and I was a complete accident. Niall is the only person who treats me like I'm a teenage girl. My mum can't say anything about the way I'm treated because my dad is a grade A asshole. She's just trying to be an obedient wife. She's still one of my best friends. 

I sat there bewildered. 

"Come on say something," he begged.

I felt the lump in my throat before I replied, "My dad is a fucking asshole, Niall."

"Ive, you don't mean that."

"Of course I do!" I got up angrily. "He never lets me do anything!"

"Ive, calm down."

"Don't tell me to calm Niall! You don't understand what its like to have no friends! You aren't stuck in a little town!"

I could tell Niall was starting to get upset.

"Listen to me," he started yelling with me now, "I'm going to get you out of this shit hole, I promise. But for now you need to wait!"

"How are you gonna help? You are leaving me!"

"Because I want to be an artist! I'm going to take you with me! That's even if anything come out of this!"

"Niall stop! You aren't going to be big enough to take me anywhere!"

"Yes I am!"

"No, Niall you won't."

He looked hurt. 

"Ivy, I'm going to be big. I'm going to sell albums all over the world. I'm starting think I'm going to do it without you too."

"If that's what you think then fine!" I was crying at this point.

He got up and stormed out. I didn't talk to him for the next two weeks and I desperately missed my best friend. I laid in bed all day everyday just waiting for a text. It got to a point where my mum was trying to get me to leave. 

"Come on honey." She said as she looked at me worriedly. 

"No"

"Ivy you can't lay in bed forever."

"Yes, I can and I'm going too."

"Well I talked to Niall's mum."

"Okay?"

"He's leaving tomorrow and I think you should talk to him."

"Fine. Tell his mum I'm coming over."

Mum agreed and pulled out her phone. 10 minutes later I was in front of his place. I went up and nervously knocked on his door. He looked surprised when he opened the door and saw me standing there.

"Hey, we need to talk. Can I come in?" I asked nervously.

He thought for a minute before replying, "Uhh yeah I was just finishing up packing." 

A few minutes later I was sitting on his bed watching him pack some things.

"Listen, I'm really sorry about blowing up on you. It's not your fault and I was just angry." I started.

"It's alright Ivy Bug." He looked at me and smiled.

Niall Horan is the only person who has called me Ivy Bug. Since my mum is his dad's sister and we are both 16, we've grown up together. He called me that one day when we were 7 and playing with bugs. He said my hair looks like a bug house as he called it. It's stuck ever since. It doesn't really make sense but he swears it does. I just go along with him.

I only smiled at him. We sat in silence for awhile. Before I spoke up, "You know when you make it big, you're gonna have to take me on tour with you."

He giggled before he said, "I will don't worry."

Ivy took her mom's last name which was Horan. Her dad didn't want to share his last name with her because he sees her as a burden.
