Chapter 3-2-1: Sure Love Complaining

***Deserted Island - Tropical Forest***

3rd POV:

"All right. Let's find ourselves a more proper campsite than the one we used last night." Riddle says while looking around. "When you say campsite, you're talkin' about a different cave or some grove of trees, right? But couldn't we just build a house to suit our own preferences?" Floyd asks. "Build a house?!" Everyone asks in shock. "Sure, a house would be a big step up from a cave...but do you even know how to build one?" Grim asks.

"Not really. Can't you just throw a bunch of wood together and call it good? If you set up some logs as pillars and use other stuff to fill in the gaps between 'em, that's basically a house. I guess it'd be a coinflip whether it collapsed or stayed standing, but hey-good enough is good enough, am I right?" Floyd asks. "Only if we were playing with building blocks—which we most certainly are not." Riddle says angrily. "I'd take mosquito bites and sleep deprivation over unstable shelter any day." Jack says.

"Yeah, same." Yuu agrees. "I don't wanna get pancaked under a bunch of logs OR become mosquito food!" Grim whines."You guys sure love complaining. Any of you got any better ideas?" Floyd asks. "Hmm... Accommodations that keep mosquitos out, which we can build with resources on hand... I've got it! Floyd might actually have the right idea." Riddle says after thinking it over. "Really? We're going with the Log-Pancake Plan?" Jack asks skeptically.

"Of course not. Not the pancake part, anyway. The logs, however, I do agree we should use. He's right that there's plenty of wood on hand. We could build a log cabin. Those don't require support columns. The walls are made from stacking logs horizontally. Stacking horizontally rather than vertically makes it less prone to collapse. It wouldn't be easy, but...It's simpler than other kinds of buildings, and amateurs like ourselves could put one together with a little help from our magic." Riddle explains.

"A log cabin? I've seen those back home...I didn't know that was how they were made, though. You know your stuff, Riddle." Jack says. "I'm going to summer camp soon. When I heard we were staying in a log cabin, I grew curious and looked up how they were made." Riddle states. "Ooh. Way to educate yourself, Goldfishie!" Floyd exclaims. "Please. Save your backhanded compliments." Riddle says.

"No, no, I mean it. I never knew that kinda building existed on land. Now I'M educated too." Floyd verifies. "You were being serious? Heh heh... Heh heh heh! Well, what else can you expect but brilliance from the housewarden of a dorm that honors the Queen of Hearts?" Riddle says proudly. "Someone's happy..." Jack mutters. "The Queen of Hearts ain't got nothin' to do with log cabins." Grim says.

"Uh-huh, very good! On the other hand, we might not know how to build a house, but Stitch prolly could if we had the right materials. Why would we stack a buncha logs together when Stitch could make us a proper house? That smug look on your face is gold." Floyd says. "Then why did you suggest throwing something together to start with?!" Riddle asks angrily. "Actually, he might have a point... I hadn't even thought about Stitch's knack for building. He had that in mind from the start, didn't he? "Coinflip," my foot. He's having fun at our expense, Riddle. Don't let him get under your skin; that's what he wants!" Jack exclaims.

"Rgh... YEARGH...!" Riddle grunts while trying to control his anger. "Okay, let's go gather some wood! That'd be a chore on its own, so let's make it a competition to see who can gather the most. The losers have to do a dare." Floyd says happily. "How about we skip the competition part?" Yuu asks. "Nope. Participation's mandatory, Little Shrimpy. Ready, set, go!" Floyd exclaims before running off and starts cutting down trees. "Ah, Floyd! Wait!" Riddle calls out. "Oh, geez... He's already cutting down trees. We'd better hurry!" Jack exclaims.
