Chapter 40: Together

"Sir, you were the only one brought in by the ambulance" as soon as she said that I rose up from my bed, ready to exit the room, but she held me down.
"Sir you can't leave yet. You didn't sustain any serious injuries, but we'll have to examine you"

"Let. Me. Go"

"But sir..."

"You can leave miss. I got permission from the doctor. He's good to go" I looked at the door to see Sam walking in.

"Where's Mira?" Was the first thing I asked when the nurse left.

"She's in the next room" I felt relief course through me as he pointed to the wall behind me.

"The nurse said I was the only one brought in" I told him looking for an explanation.

"Her ambulance arrived earlier than yours. She sustained more injuries so she had to be rushed here first. I guess that nurse only saw you and has been attending to you since" I nodded my head slowly in understanding, but was still unsatisfied. I haven't seen her. I have to.

"I'm going to see my wife" I said before making an attempt to stand up and loosing my balance.

"Are you sure that's a good idea?" He asked as he came to help me.

"I'm fine. Help me take these off" I tried to remove the drip inserted at the back of my hand.

"Leo?"

"It's just the next room Sam. Now help me, please" I guess hearing me say please caused him to finally give in.

The moment I was free, I went dashing out of the hospital room. I got to the room she was supposed to be in and waited a moment before opening the door.
I took in a deep breath and opened the door.

I wasted no time to enter the.....empty room. There was no one on her bed and I felt a pang of sadness fill me. My chest hurt and I felt hopeless.

"Sam" I shouted and he came in "where's she?"

"She was just here. I thought I....." he was interrupted by the sound of a toilet flushing and we both looked at the door to the toilet.

Out came Mira, with a cast on her leg and a crutch under one of her arms.

"It's kinda hard to pee with this" she raised her injured leg with a smile on her face.

"Uh..I'll go pick up Tara from the airport" he said as he put his phone back in his pocket. He waved us goodbye before leaving.
I felt myself moving towards her and before I knew it, she was in my embrace. I hugged her tightly, never wanting to let go of her. I've missed her so much.

"L-Leo...too t-tight" I loosened my grip on her but didn't let her go and she let out a cute, hearty laugh.

"I love you" was the only thing I said as a reply "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you" I added.

"I love you too" she said and tried to back away, but I wouldn't let her. "Let's sit on the bed Leo" she let out another laugh.

We switched rooms and made sure we were together. Food was brought in earlier and we decided to eat. The doctor also told us that we were free to be discharged today after our last check-ups. For now, we just wanted to be with each other.
