The day after the harrowing events, Alexine sat in her room, ungagged but still restrained. The room's sterility seemed to mock her, a constant reminder of her new reality. She watched as a nurse prepared equipment on a metal tray, the clinking of instruments filling the oppressive silence.

The nurse, a stern-faced woman with brown hair neatly tucked under her cap, moved with a mechanical efficiency. Alexine recognized her-the same nurse who used to slap her during the earlier tortures. The memories of those slaps burned in her mind, a mix of anger and a strange curiosity stirring within her.

Alexine's body ached, the toll of the torture evident in every movement. Her mind, however, was in denial, struggling to grasp the reality of her newfound powers. She didn't want to believe that she was anything other than a regular girl from Lyon, caring for her father. The thought of having powers felt like a cruel joke.

"Why are you doing this to me?" Alexine's voice was hoarse, her throat dry from crying and screaming.

The nurse glanced at her but said nothing, focusing on her task. Alexine's eyes followed her every move, a flicker of defiance still burning despite her exhaustion.

"Do you enjoy it?" Alexine asked, her voice laced with a mix of bitterness and genuine curiosity. "Hurting me, experimenting on me?"

The nurse paused, meeting Alexine's gaze with a cold, unreadable expression. "It is not for me to enjoy or dislike. It is my duty," she replied curtly in german, her voice devoid of emotion. With her months of captivity Alexine had started to pick up on the language. There was nothing to do here but.

Alexine's heart pounded, a surge of anger mixing with her fear. She didn't want to believe what was happening, didn't want to accept that she had powers or that she was being used as a guinea pig. She clung to the hope that this was all some nightmare she would wake up from.

"Do you know what they've done to me?" Alexine's voice trembled. "What they've turned me into?"

The nurse didn't answer, her silence more damning than any words.

"I don't want these powers," Alexine whispered, more to herself than to the nurse. "I just want to go home."

The nurse finished her preparations and turned to face Alexine. "You must accept your reality, Fräulein. The sooner you do, the easier it will be."

Alexine shook her head, tears welling up again. Acceptance felt like a betrayal to herself, to her father, and to everything she had believed in. She didn't want to be a monster, the leaflet never said that their experiment would change her very nature.

The door opened, and another figure entered the room. Dr. Vogelbaum, with his usual cold demeanor, approached Alexine. He glanced at the nurse, who nodded and stepped aside.

"How are you feeling today, Alexine?" Dr. Vogelbaum asked, his tone clinical.

Alexine didn't respond, her eyes fixed on the ceiling, trying to hold back the tears.
