During one of their covert operations, Alexine and Elena were tasked with gathering information at a lively American diner. Their mission was to blend in as regular patrons while discreetly observing two suspicious individuals seated in a booth.

The diner was bustling, its red leather booths and checkerboard floors evoking a classic Americana vibe.

Elena ordered for both of them, opting for the day's special-a classic American cheeseburger with fries. Alexine, trying to fit in, decided to follow suit. When their orders arrived, Alexine looked at her burger with a mix of curiosity and confusion.

"Do you know how to eat these?" she asked Elena, poking at the burger with a fork as if it were a foreign object.

Elena stifled a chuckle. "Just pick it up with your hands and take a bite. It's not a fancy meal, Alexine."

Alexine mimicked Elena's actions but ended up with a smear of ketchup on her cheek. She looked around nervously, unsure if anyone had noticed.

As she took a bite, the burger's contents squished out from the sides, leaving a large blob of mayonnaise on her fingers. She glanced at Elena with wide eyes, unsure how to handle the situation.

Elena burst into laughter, shaking her head. "Just open your mouth wide. It's supposed to be messy."

Alexine giggled, embarrassed that she couldn't even eat a sandwich properly. "I guess I'm still adjusting to American culture."

Their laughter eased the tension of the mission momentarily. But as Alexine wiped the mayonnaise off her hands, a shadow of sadness crossed her face. The laughter reminded her of the last time she had truly smiled-during her moments with Frederich.

Elena noticed the change in Alexine's expression and grew more serious. "Are you okay?" she asked softly.

Alexine nodded, though her eyes betrayed a deep sadness. "Just... thinking about old friends. It's been a while since I've felt this lighthearted."

Elena offered a sympathetic smile. "You really had a tough start, Alexine. Well, now you'll laugh every time I'm around. I promise."

Alexine managed a small smile, feeling a glimmer of care from Elena.

She was still under the influence of valium, which made it difficult for her to focus. The medication distorted her perceptions, and as she watched the man they were supposed to spy on, his features seemed to morph in her blurred vision.

In her drug-induced haze, the man's face seemed to align with Frederich's-his dark hair, sharp features, even the way he gestured.

Her heart ached with an intensity she hadn't felt before. The warmth of her feelings for Frederich surged through her, mingling with a painful realization.

Alexine's breath caught in her throat as she stared at the man, who now appeared to be Frederich, despite knowing rationally that it couldn't be him.

Tears began to pool in her eyes. She blinked rapidly, trying to clear her vision. Her hand trembled as she reached for her glass of water, only to knock it over, spilling its contents across the table. Elena looked over with concern.
