I've taken impulsive decisions in my life, but this is a cherry on top. Who knew I would be landing at London Stansted Airport? I don't even know my destination, but the little sister promised to fetch me.
I get out of the plane and admire the place. It's in the wee hours of the morning so the lights are shining bright. I didn't bring lots of luggage, just this one suitcase I'm pulling. I take off my sunglasses to see if I can see my name written on a board. After all, I don't even know what the sister looks like. There's no profile pic on her WhatsApp account.
I'll just wait for her. While walking, I feel a tap on my shoulder, and I turn around when the person who just tapped me takes off his glasses. I eye him from head to toe. Okay, he looks like a driver or bodyguard. No offense because he looks handsome.
"Remember me?" He smiles a little, showing off his dimples. Okay, am I supposed to remember him? I mean, I would never forget such a handsome face.
"I don't think so." I shake my head while frowning at him. He chuckles.
"Well, I get that a lot. When you're not the main character in your life, nobody ever remembers you. I'm Tex,Qhawe's personal driver. I gave you a lift the day you were a runaway bride." He offers his hand, and I try to recollect then 'boom' it hits me. I almost feel bad.
"The guy who gave me a lift on my wedding day?" He nods while I shake his hand.
"I'm the one."
"Thank you. I didn't think I'll ever meet you again. You're Qhawe's personal driver?" He nods again.
"You don't remember him,do you?" He ask amused.
"I don't understand." This man loves talking in riddles.
"That day I gave you a lift,Qhawe was the who suggested that I give you a lift." OMG? He was the strange man sitting at the backseat and looking outside of the window?
"Where is he anyway?" I pull my hand back and sigh. He's giving me a headache.
"Probably dead." Tex chuckles, and I give him a dead glare. He raises his hands in mock surrender.
"Sorry that was not funny. I'm here to pick you up." He takes my suitcase, and I follow him to where a black Mercedes-Benz AMG is parked. He opens the passenger door for me before placing the bag in the back. I get in the car and close my door after while Tex also get in.
He starts driving in silence while I admire the beautiful scenes in front of me. It's around 2am when we finally reach a big mansion. There's a girl waiting at the entrance. I get out of the car and walk to where the girl is. Before I could get a word out of me, she engulfed me in a hug. Okay...
"Hi. I'm Millicent but you can call me Milly. I'm Qhawe's little sister." She let go of me and introduced herself. Is she the sister? She's so young. I expected someone my age or a little older than me.
"You're a kid." I point it out, and she half chuckles.
"I'm seventeen. Doesn't that count?" She tries to act cute. She's adorable, yeah, but she's also forward.
"Where's your brother?" I didn't come here for this.
"A little impatient, I see. Come." I follow her inside. The interior of the house is fancier than the exterior. The walls are painted white with beautiful pieces of art and paintings adorning the walls.
"For someone whose brother is dying, you look calm." I tell the girl in front of me. We are ascending the unending stairs to God knows where.
"Believe me, I'm not. I'm just trying to hold it together." We keep walking and passing all the rooms until we stop in front of the last room on this floor. The girl opens the door, and we are welcomed with a dim light as we both step in. My heart is beating rapidly from my feet.
"He's sleeping. I'll give you space." She walks out and closes the door on her way out. On the bed, there's a sleeping figure. I'm scared of moving further. I've contemplated about this moment since I received that phone call, but nothing could have prepared me for this. I swallow a lump and thread further.
I sit on the bed and come face to face with a sleeping Qhawe. He looks worse than he did in the picture. I see one of his hands dangling from the bed, and I catch hold of it. He's cold. If it was not for the gentle snores, I'd swear he's dead. I didn't even realize when my tears escaped, but I could feel them flowing across my cheeks. I don't have time to wipe them.
"What happened to you, Qhawe?" I speak to his sleeping self while holding his hand.
"I wished bad luck upon you when you left me, but that was just anger speaking. I was so sure that I was going to snatch you from Petal just like every man who was snatched from me, but I'm no longer that selfish. Spending all those years without you taught me that sometimes you have to let go of people even if you love them. Love is not a prison. That's why I never fought for you even when I realized I was in love with you. I loved you enough to let you go and choose myself, but I refuse to lose you to death..." I sniff away my tears, but it's like I'm fuelling them. I can't stay here. I let go of his hand and attempted to leave when I felt his hand pulling me. I turn around and come face to face with his green orbs looking so lifeless.
"Why are you crying?" Those are his first words after saying nothing to me in six months. I try to pull my hand away from his, but he tightens his hold.
"Let go of me!" I want to get out of here. I don't want him to see me crying.
"I can't. Please sit down." He sits upright and leans on the headboard while I unwillingly sit on the bed.
We sit in silence with him staring at me while I'm trying my best not to stare at him.
"You're glowing." He finally breaks the silence and let go of my hand. I make sure to wipe the remaining tears on my face. I'm no longer crying. I've let out the emotions, and now I'm calmer.
"I'm happy without you." I roll my eyes while he just smiles. At least he still has the panty dropping smile, but I'm never dropping my panties for him again.
"Is that why you were crying? Or how you boarded the next available flight to come see me?" He's still arrogant?
"Your arrogance is going to kill you." He laughs out loud till he coughs. I grab a glass of water, and instead of handing it to him,I splash it on his face. His breath hitches.
"Okay, I didn't expect that." He wipes his face.
"What did you expect? You left me without saying anything. I was just a fool who waited for you, but I'm done. I'm done with you!" I stand up and walk out. I saw him so I'm booking the next available flight to South Africa.
