POV: Marissa
Well this is embarrassing. Did I look that bad?
I looked at myself in the mirror just after Drake ran off. Tears sprang to my eyes. I wanted this dress, it was beautiful, but if it looked terrible he could have just told me. My sadness turned to anger. I thought we were getting along pretty well as neighbors but I guess not. I pushed some hair out of my face and looked at his wallet on the ground.
If he didn’t like the dress then why did he leave his wallet so I could pay for it?
I pursed my lips and looked at the dress on me again. Just to push it in his face I bought the dress and some new shoes. Yeah, it was childish at best but you can’t just run off on a girl when she’s trying on a dress. I walked towards the food court.
“Hey Marissa! Over here!” Jenna yelled this excitedly, earning herself a few stares. I rolled my eyes as a walked over towards her.
“Where’s Drake?” I asked not seeing him anywhere.
“He went home to um,” Chase looked towards Hunter.
“Get something. He really needs it. Didn’t think he could last without it.” Hunter finished for her smoothly.
“He couldn’t have told me that but he had time to tell you guys that?” I looked at Hunter skeptically.
“He called me,” Hunter saved the day again. I looked at him again but he had a blank look on his face.
“So when did you guys become all buddy-buddy with each other?” My eyes narrowed.
“When we were in the living room together,” Hunter quickly answered again.
“Fine by me,” I said finally accepting it then sitting down. “But I hope he doesn’t get pulled over.” I said this as I pulled his wallet out from the bag I had from the store. Jenna noticed this and squealed.
“You got the dress then! Did it look good? I bet you looked smokin’ hot!” Jenna’s face lit up with excitement.
Destiny looked around the table, almost like she was looking for someone. Her eyes landed on Hunter then looked around the room. She looked like an adult when she did that, almost as if we were missing something. I looked skeptically at the six year old in front of me. I wanted to figure her out.
“Hey Destiny, are you okay?” I said this warmly but softly, not wanting to scare her. Her huge blue eyes landed on me. She looked scared.
“Hey guys! Sorry I had to leave, and especially sorry to you Marissa. You looked beautiful in the dress by the way. Did you end up buying it?” Drake came up behind us. At his words I felt bad for buying the shoes too.
“Yes I did. Here’s your wallet,” I handed it to him then looked down at the bag.
“Did you get anything else?” Drake was still staring at me. I could feel him, but I didn’t look up. My heartbeat spiked.
What if he gets mad?
“Yes,” I whispered this almost hoping he wouldn’t hear me.
“What else did you get?” Drake didn’t sound mad. He sounded almost, happy?
“New shoes,” I looked down at the bag again and felt terrible.
“What color?” My head snapped up at this. Drake’s eyes were trained on me as were everyone else’s at the table. Besides poor Destiny, she was still checking around the room, but this time while sitting in Drake’s lap.
“Black,” My voice came out hoarse and felt underused. His eyes seemed to hold an emotion that I just couldn’t figure out, but his eyes stayed trained on me. I felt almost connected to him…
That’s it, when I get home all of the vampire books are being set on fire. Maybe I just read too much.
“That’s sexy,” Jenna decided to break the silence. When I looked at her she looked like she was about to die holding in her laugh. Her face was completely red and her mouth was all crinkled up. Suddenly, she lost the battle and the whole food court went silent as her laughs filled the air.
“Jenna I think you have finally lost it,” I said this as I just stared at her. She never just completely lost it like this. The food court decided to fill with talking again.
Jenna tried to calm herself down, “Nope!” More laughing. “I just—I just think,” Again, more laughing, “that you’re miss—miss—missing something.” She kept on giggling. Drake made a clucking sound with his tongue while Chase almost looked scared. Hunter was just glancing around nervously.
Jenna finally decided to calm down then looked around the table. “What? Nobody else is realizing just how much Drake thinks that Marissa is seriously the shit-ass bomb?”
“Jenna, no one knows what you’re saying,” Chase said this slowly while her face was looking less scared, but I knew what she was saying. I just didn’t want to agree with her. It couldn’t be. I spared a glance as Drake. He just looked pissed off.
“I’m saying Drake has a boner right now just thinking about Marissa in that dress. Why did you think her left Mar Mar? He didn’t want to embarrass himself,” Jenna looked oddly pleased with herself. We were definitely talking about this later. My face was on fire.
