ONE MONTH LATER
The atmosphere in the kitchen was thick with tension, the weight of my impending decision pressing down heavily on all of us. Mingyu and Wonwoo, clutching Han protectively, watched me with expressions etched with concern, their gazes piercing as if trying to read my thoughts.
"San will be furious—Joon doesn't deserve your time," Mingyu stated with a firm resolve, his voice ringing with a mix of worry and admonishment. He adjusted Han in his arms, his protective instincts clearly stirred by the situation.
I exhaled deeply, the air heavy in my lungs as I tried to articulate my thoughts. "It's the right thing to do—he's locked up in a mental hospital. Nothing will happen. I need to do this, to put an end to it all and find peace, whether San agrees or not," I responded, my voice steady despite the emotional turmoil swirling within me.
Wonwoo's brow furrowed in empathy, yet his stance remained cautious. "I understand why you feel compelled to do this, but consider the possible repercussions. This could dredge up old pains, not just for you but for San as well," he advised, his words careful and considerate.
Acknowledging his valid concerns, I nodded. "I know, and I've thought about that. But this isn't just about me or us. It's about finally closing a chapter that's lingered over us for too long. I need to do this, not just for my own peace but for our family's future. I don't want Han growing up under this shadow."
Mingyu opened his eyes, his gaze settling on me with a resigned understanding. "If you're set on this, we won't stop you. But at least consider informing San, don't go behind his back. He deserves to know," he suggested firmly.
I bit my lip, contemplating. "I'll tell him afterward. Once it's done. I don't want him trying to stop me or getting involved. This is something I need to handle alone."
Wonwoo sighed, moving closer to place a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Just promise us you'll be careful," he implored, his eyes earnest. "And if you change your mind, we're just a call away. Don't do anything you might regret."
Grateful for their reluctant support, I nodded. "I promise. And thank you, both of you, for being here today, for taking care of Han."
With a resolve fortified by necessity but heavy with consequence, I grabbed my keys and headed for the door. My footsteps echoed in the quiet hallway, a solitary march toward a decision laden with gravity.
The weight of the decision hung heavy as I sat in the car, the hum of the engine a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me. My sister's unexpected appearance added an extra layer of tension to an already fraught moment.
As I revved the engine, ready to leave, I caught sight of her running toward the car, her expression tense, a clear sign she disagreed with my choice. She reached the car just as I was about to pull away, throwing open the passenger door with a gasp for air, her eyes wide with urgency.
