As we pulled into the driveway of our home, the sense of returning to familiar territory brought a comforting ease. I glanced at San, who seemed equally relieved and excited, his eyes occasionally darting to the rearview mirror to check on Eun-ji, safely nestled in her car seat. Once parked, we took a moment to collect ourselves before gathering our little bundle and our bags.
San carefully lifted Eun-ji out of the car, cradling her with practiced gentleness as we approached our front door. The thought of stepping into our home as a family of four was thrilling, a moment we had imagined many times over the last few months.
Upon entering, the sounds of laughter and chatter greeted us. Han was at the kitchen table, his face animated as he talked with Mingyu and Wonwoo, who were helping him with breakfast. The house, usually quiet in the early morning, was alive with the warmth of family and the smell of pancakes and fruit.
Mingyu and Wonwoo turned towards the door as we stepped in, their expressions transitioning from casual amusement with Han to utter surprise as they caught sight of Eun-ji. Their mouths fell open slightly, stunned not only by our early return but by the sight of the newest addition to our family.
"Wow, you're already back—and with the baby!" Mingyu exclaimed, his voice a mixture of shock and delight. He quickly wiped his hands on a kitchen towel and approached, his eyes wide as he peered at Eun-ji.
Wonwoo, equally astounded, followed close behind, his usual composure replaced by an eager curiosity. "She's here already? This is amazing!" he said, his tone filled with wonder as he looked down at Eun-ji, who was quietly observing her new surroundings.
San laughed, his fatigue momentarily forgotten in the warm welcome. "Yes, we're all here now. Meet Choi Eun-ji," he introduced her proudly.
I smiled, feeling a surge of pride and joy. "She's come a bit ahead of schedule, but perfectly healthy and beautiful."
Han, noticing the excitement, jumped down from his chair and came running over. "Baby sister!" he shouted gleefully, trying to get a better look. We carefully adjusted Eun-ji so he could see her more clearly without startling her.
"Let's all sit down," I suggested, motioning towards the dining table. "We can catch up, and you guys can meet Eun-ji properly."
Mingyu and Wonwoo nodded, their initial shock transforming into smiles of affection and excitement. They returned to the table, making room for us as we joined them, setting up a makeshift spot for Eun-ji's carrier beside us.
Mingyu's voice carried a blend of surprise and affection as he watched Eun-ji sleep peacefully. "Wow, yesterday you left with pain and we thought looking after Han was just about you going to get checked and coming home. We didn't think she would make her arrival two months early," he remarked, still slightly bewildered by the swift turn of events.
