my dad had a day off since he closed the inn for the day so i asked mrs noon if i could stay home and spend some time with him. it's been a while since i had even seen my dad in days.
i was making breakfast for us, since he wasn't awake yet. i let the music from my phone play in the background as i dance as stir the batter of the pancakes. i was making chocolate chip pancakes as my dad and i used to eat these all the time.
my eyes widen in alarm when the smell of something burning filled my nostrils. i rush over the stove flipping over my pancakes to reveal the charred side of it.
-----
my dad rubs his eyes as he walks down the stairs and sees the dining table set up.
"wow, what all this?" he smiles.
"breakfast!" i beam, proudly. i pull out a chair for him to sit. he tucks his chair in, picking up his fork and looked around at the food i had prepared.
he pokes the burnt pancake on his plate, chuckling slightly."it's a little burnt don't you think?"
i roll my eyes sarcastically, waving him off.
i watch as he takes a bite. i could practically hear the crunching of how burnt it was but he puts on a smile trying to make it seem like he liked it.
"mmm....crunchy," he comments, trying to swallow down the crunchy bits.
"you don't like it," i state, in obvious.
"no, no i'm just-"
"no it's okay!" i tell him as i take his plate away, putting down a bowl of cereal for him.
"thank you bean," he says appreciatively.
"of course dad," i smile.
we talk for a bit as i update him about my life and him about his.
"so you and that noon kid...brady? you friends still?" he asks.
"not really. but i am getting closer to this other guy, logan," i tell him. honestly, logan was cute and funny. i think we could possibly be close.
"that's great, id like to meet him one day," my dad says.
the doorbell rings and i get up to answer it.
it continues to ring and i open the door, annoyed at whoever was so impatient.
"brady? what are you doing here?" i ask confused, him being the last person i'd expect to see.
"rory, you're here!" he says, sounding relieved.
i furrow my brows. "it my house...?"
"well-"
"brady, what a nice surprise," my dad greets him as he walks up to the door.
"good morning sir," brady greet back.
"come in and join us for breakfast!"
"uh i don't know-" i try to protest.
"oh come on, we've got plenty of room," my dad prompts, practically not giving brady a choice as he pulls him into the house by his shoulders.
----
"i heard you and my daughter are close friends," my dad starts.
"what? dad i told you we weren't-"
"well not exactly sir," brady replies back nervously. was he scared of my dad?
"what with the formality? i've known you since you were a child i think you can call me james," my dad laughs.
brady laughs along, still quite nervous.
brady stayed for all of breakfast before he finally left. it was the most awkward breakfast ever.
i walked him out as my dad was clearing the table.
i whack the back of his head. "what the hell is wrong with you? why did you stay for breakfast!"
he holds the back of his head in pain," it wasn't like i had a choice! you're dad practically dragged me in!"
i roll my eyes. "so all of a sudden we're best friends and you come to my house to check up on me?"
"i was just seeing if you got back. i mean you literally just met logan. i do this with everyone, don't go on feeling special," he says back. guess he was still a jerk.
"great, can we hold hands and skip now?" i sarcastically remark.
"that doesn't even make sense-"
"whatever is going on with logan right now is my business and you made it clear the last time that you don't care so."
he nods after a while as he walks away.
pheebs note- so....idk what to say but yeaa
