"no," i say simply, dismissing brady's requests

"but why not?"

"because i've never been to an event like that before. what would i even wear?" i question him.

brady and i had grown closer over the span of weeks, as if we had never hated each other. well, sometimes.

anyway, he had just invited me to come to the kids choice awards with him. it was really random but i was hesitant to accept it since i feel out of place attending such an event and not being a celebrity.

"i'll get you something," he deadpans, probably tired of trying to convince me.

" i don't know...i'll think about it?" i compromise.

"as long as you think about it."

---

i sit by the shore of the water feeling the water splash against my toes.

a feel a tap on my shoulder, causing me to jump slightly in shock.

"man, you really like this beach huh?" brady asks, sitting next to me.

"yeah, my mom-" i stop myself, unsure of whether i should be saying this to him.

"you know you can talk to me about your mom right? i mean i did know her," he assures.

it was true. brady was one of the only people i could talk about her to since he did know her too even if he was really young.

"she used to bring me to this beach a lot. it's a little cliche but i feel like i can feel her presence here," i look to him for understanding.

he offers a comforting smile, not saying anything just to show he understood what i was feeling. i felt my heart flutter, a feeling i had never felt before with anyone.

suddenly, something bold in me awakened as i leaned my head on his shoulder, staring out at he blue waves.

he tenses slightly but slowly eased into my touch. we sat in comfortable silence, admiring the scenery.

----

"i've decided, i'll come with you to the kca's," i tell him as we walked to my house.

"wow, acronym basis, you've really thought it out," he jokes.

i play along acting proud.

"thank you, you won't regret it," he adds.

"i'm holding that to you," i warn him jokingly.

he salutes, causing me to laugh. we walk up to my front door. i say goodbye before going into the house. brady lived a few houses floren so the distance wasn't far.

i felt content with our impromptu hangout, feeling as though our friendship truly was growing.
