24 - The Romance 💐
The person who said time flies when you're having fun must have not been bored often. If they had, they would have known that time did the same thing when you were having fun, bored, overworked or stressed. It flew by.
That was why Dunni blinked and the last Friday of the month was here. Today was her second executive meeting and Dunni was ready. It had been a very busy month, she had been juggling training the design team with VIP custom designs and Mo's design meetups. Mo was working at a fast pace to get the collection ready so she could get her mind off work and enjoy her retirement.
But Dunni knew that this wasn't the last Mo Edun collection. She just humoured Mo when she talked about this being her last collection because she knew, she just knew that Mo had a lot more designs inside her. Dunni planned to stick around to bring it out.
Just as she did with her team, she had one-on-one meetings with everyone so she knew what they wanted and how she and the company could help. She made sure a lot of those meetings happened in the production studio. The place where all the designs came to life.
For Dunni this was the most important process and she made it her job to educate the design team on the importance of understanding the production process. It helped make their designs more detailed. The vague things became clearer because they weren't just thinking about their design, they were also thinking of how the jewellery was going to be produced.
She made it her job to educate them on the importance of understanding the step by step of making your piece of jewellery. Some of the meetings were her making them go through the step-by-step, smithing their pieces or watching Steve and the team make it from scratch. A lot of them had walked away with their first piece of custom-made jewellery. Their very own piece.
For a lot of them, it was the first time they had actually helped their designs in their own hands. It was a very exhilarating feeling and she watched the change in her team. She watched them actually become a team and get excited about the design process.
Well most of them, she was still struggling to get to Molara and her gang of misfits. A few of her misfits actually enjoyed the process even though they acted like they didn't for their queen's benefit. But Dunni didn't get this far to give up now.
Molara had proven to be the most uncooperative, she had a level of pride from being classmates with Dunni once upon a time. Dunni took it with stride, but the girls hated to hear about Molara. They were ready to throw hands where she and Molara were concerned.
So even though they had literally begged her to visit the office multiple times, Dunni had always said no. She knew their plan and she wasn't ready to watch them hands with Molara. She wanted to see if there was hope for her. Throwing hands was the last option on Dunni's plans to bring Molara around. Yes, there was an actual ongoing list.
She was already on a first-name basis with the production team. They had their own space far away from Collins HQ. It was a very peaceful place, Steve told her this was where they first started Collins Jewels.
She was there regularly to monitor the production of their VIP custom pieces. She found out that communication made every step easy. She took a deep breath as she walked into the production studio. She loved this place, it reminded her so much of her dad's shop back in the day.
He had been both the designer and producer of his jewellery, so Dunni was a child of both sides. Which was what made this place feel like home. Coming here made her feel like she was back in Dad's shop, smithing stainless steel together. Gold plating a piece of jewellery carefully.
They had even created a small space for her, and Dunni had happily carted all her stuff over to it. She designed it to be as functional as possible; there was no need to make it cute at all. Most days, she wished she could just work out of the production studio and only report to HQ occasionally.
