Chapter 1

Maylin's POV

I stirred the cheerios around in the bowl absently, thinking about how horrific it was that summer was over.

I had to go to school.

"Hurry up, May! Its the first day and I dont want to be late!" Sam shouted in my ear, making me jump.

"Ok Samuel."

He scowled and I grinned. He hated it when I used his full name.

I finished the cereal and dashed up the stairs into my room.

I quickly dressed and then looked in the mirror.

I frowned at how plain I looked. I wore one of my brothers random t-shirts with a band logo on the front and old skinny jeans.

I had a slender frame and I was average height. My long blonde hair hung halfway down my back, but it was thrown into a messy ponytail. My eyes were pretty I guess, they were a light green colour. But I usually looked down, not at people.

I sighed and rushed down the stairs.

My brother was already waiting in the car honking the horn repeatedly and yelling at me to hurry up.

"Ok, ok," I said as I threw myself into the car, "Calm down."

He stuck his tongue out at me and I laughed.

I loved my brother so much.

He was very handsome, with dark brown eyes, blonde hair, and very muscular. But he wasnt your usual jock, he was very sweet.

I sighed as I realized that my mother should be driving me to school, or hugging me goodbye and wishing me well on my first day.

But my mother wasnt the same anymore. She was a completely different person.

My dad had died two years ago, and my mom had turned to ice. All she did was work, and when she came home she would lock herself in her room.

My mother was a gorgeous blonde, petite woman. She once had a smile that could light up a whole room.

Now she never came out of her room.

A jab of loss hit me when I thought of my father, I missed him so much.

He had brought out the happiness in my mother with his handsome face and silly jokes. He had loved us so much.

He had been in the plane though as it crashed, ruining all of our happiness.

No. Not all the happiness. I still had my brother, the one person I trusted and loved.

I looked out the window at my new home.

Santa Rosa, Arizona.

My brother drived fast and sloppily parked in the school lot.

I looked up at the large words, written with polished wood.

HIGH MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL

I was suddenly nervous and scared. My brother was good at making friends, I wasnt.

My brother got out of the car and walked over to my side to open the door.

When he saw how scared I looked his eyes softened.

I got out and he hugged me tightly.

"You will be fine. Ill take you to get your schedule and then Ill sit with you at lunch." he said comfortingly, smiling at me.
