Chapter 21
Rileys POV
I looked at my father in absolute disbelief.
"What do you mean we're not attacking? They're circling our territory! They want one of our prisoners back! We have to attack." My irritation crept into my voice.
My father shook his head in disagreement and I growled.
"Riley, they are not on our territory and they havent attacked. If they do we will be on them in a second. Calm down and think about it." his voice was firm.
I snarled and hit the wall with my fist. Hard.
"Riley, why dont you go see how Mays doing. You didnt exactly explain to her what was happening." his voice was gentler.
"Fine." I muttered, stalking out of the room.
I walked up the stairs to Emmas room, and I was surprised to hear laughing through the door.
I flung open the door to see Matt and May chortling on the couch, way too close together for my liking.
I growled and the laughter ceased at once, Matt jumped up and moved to my side.
"Riley." he said, bowing his head respectfully.
"Youre dismissed Matt." I muttered angrily.
His face was confused, but he bowed his head once more and left the room.
I looked up at May, and all my worries didnt seem so big anymore. Her light green eyes made me forget my name, I was so lost in them.
She must have sensed I was worried, because she got up and walked toward me. With each step she took, the more intoxicated I was by her scent.
She stopped right in front of me and put her hands on my chest shyly. She gave me a small smile and then wrapped her arms around my waist, hugging me tightly. I groaned at her touch, it made my skin tingle with pleasure and my wolf howl with excitement.
I hugged her back, burying my face in her silky hair. I never wanted to let go.
After a few minutes, she pulled back to inspect my face. Her face scrunched up cutely.
"Whats the matter? And dont even think about lying. If Im going to be your Luna, I get to know things too." Her soft voice was gentle, but firm.
When she said the words 'your Luna' my heart seemed to swell, making me unbearably happy.
"Ok. There are some rogues near our territory. Like the ones you saw that day," her eyes widened in fear, " My dad says we shouldnt attack unless they do something, but I just want them gone."
"What do they want?" she whispered, panic etched into her features.
I stroked her face, wanting to comfort her.
"Dont you worry. Nobody will touch you. Youll be safe." I reassured softly.
She shook her head and looked at her feet.
"Its not me Im worried about." she said quietly.
Of course she would be worried about my safety, not hers.
"May, dont worry about me. At all. Im trained for this and I can handle it. Ok?" I said softly.
She nodded.
I kissed her on the forehead, and the door banged open, making us jump.
Emma sauntered in, and I grumbled in annoyance. Could I not have five minutes with my mate?
"My turn." Emma sang, grabbing Mays arm and dragging her off.
I rolled my eyes.
Mays POV
I laughed at Emma as she made a sour face at the fridge.
"Ughhhh out of milk? I wanted to make cookies." She pouted, her lip jutting out.
I shrugged and gently closed the fridge with my foot.
"I can go get some milk. The grocery stores only like a five minute walk from here." I offered.
She smiled and hugged me tightly.
"Would you? That would be awesome! Ill mix the other stuff here and then when you get back we can make them!" She shrieked in excitement.
I laughed as her eyes lit up and grabbed my jacket from the closet.
"See ya." I closed the door behind me.
The sun was out and it felt amazing on my skin.
I jumped as I felt my leg buzz. I pulled my phone out of my shorts pocket and pressed the green button.
"Hello?" I said warily.
"May? May, listen I just heard that you figured out and I know the last time we talk you were mad at me and I'm really sorry I just want to know if you're okay because I know you're shifting soon and-" I cut off his desperate ranting.
"Sam, it's fine. I was being dramatic and it's okay. And I'm fine, I know everything now-" I broke off as something caught my eye.
There was a beaten up, red truck behind me. And it was going slow.
Really slow.
"May, are you there? Hello?" Sam asked.
I drew in an unsteady breath and kept walking trying to stay calm.
"Sam. I think I'm being followed." My voice was a strangled whisper, my phone almost slipped in my sweaty palms.
I heard Sam breath in a sharp breath on the line.
"By who? May,tell me the license plate." His voice was strained, and I heard rustling in the backround.
I brought my phone away from me for a second, so I could see the reflection.
"856 RFH." I whispered under my breath.
"May, don't panic. Where are you?" His voice was high and anxious.
"I'm-" She trailed off when someone got out of the truck.
He had long black hair, and he was huge. And he was a werewolf.
May ran.
Her suspicions were confirmed when he started running too, and he was faster than you'd think.
She heard Sam's voice, distant and tinny, on the phone. But she had to focus on running.
May thought she had lost him, when she realized she was in an alleyway, damp and isolated.
And at the end of the alleyway was another man. She was trapped.
Turning around she saw the long haired man, a smirk playing on his lips. He took out something silver and shiny, and May's heart dropped when she saw what it was.
A gun.
"Please leave me alone." Her voice came out quiet and thick with fear, not how she intended.
He rose the gun so it was pointed directly at her, his teeth showing from how wide he was grinning. May noticed a nasty scar on his neck, like he was mauled by an animal.
"Sorry sweetie, no can do."
May turned to run, but before she could move she heard a bang, and searing pain burned through her back.
Her head hit the pavement with a crack as she screamed out, her shirt soaking quickly with blood. May could feel the gravel dig into her arms as blackness crept into her vision, slowly turning her mind blank.
The last thing she felt was rough hands on her arms before the blackness took over.
