She woke up to steady breathing beside her, and a searing pain in her neck.
As her eyes peeled open she let out a gasp of pain as it shot down her back.
Looking down, May saw the ropes tied crudely to a wooden chair, one that was stabbing wooden splinters in her shoulders.
Bloody circles showed where the ropes cut deep into her skin. Without looking up, she tried to pull her hands free, screaming when pain twisted through her.
"Darling, you'll hurt yourself."
She froze at the smooth voice, turning her head to see a man in a suit. He was handsome, with dark hair and dark eyes. His thin lips were curled upwards in an ugly smirk.
But something about him was off, and her skin crawled looking at his dark eyes.
"Who the fuck are you?" May was surprised at how steady her voice was.
His face twisted into a frown, and he leaned in way too close. She tried pulling away but he held her neck tightly, his hands cold.
"Don't talk to me like that, sweetie." He whispered, his cold breath fanning her face.
Biting down her disgust, she closed her eyes and tried to breath, tried to pretend she was somewhere else.
With Riley. She would pretend she was with Riley, and not in this place where she was probably going to die.
No, she couldn't die. She had to get out for Riley and her brother. She wouldn't die here.
Thankfully the man moved back, his hands slipping off her neck. She took a minute to look around, but there really was no point.
They were in an empty room, with concrete floors and a grey wall. Other than the chairs they sat on, there was no furniture.
No clue to where the hell she was.
"Please let me go." Her voice came out as barely a whisper, but he seemed to hear just fine.
She choked in horror as he brushed a finger slowly across her cheek, a small smile on his face.
"I'll never let you go." He whispered, and every word was making something inside of her boil over.
She felt the panic rise inside of her and she screamed loudly.
"Please let me go! Please just let me go!" She screamed louder, her voice cracking.
Ignoring the pain in her wrists, she tugged and tugged, hearing her blood drip to the ground.
Past her screaming, it sounded like the man said something like "Being so difficult."
And then she felt a prick in her arm.
Her screams grew weaker as blackness edged at her vision, and she wondered how many times he would knock her out before he killed her.
Riley's POV
I walked down the stairs with a grin on my face, the thought of my mate enough to keep me happy.
When I got to the kitchen, I was surprised to see only my sister.
"Where's May?" I asked.
Emma looked up from the recipe book she was flipping through, a wrinkle on her forehead.
"She went to pick up milk from the store. She should be back soon, she left only five or ten minutes ago." She said distractedly, her eyes returning to the book.
Before I could scold her about letting May go off on her own, and then drive to the store to pick her up, my phone vibrated in my pocket.
The caller I.D. said Sam, as I pressed the phone to my ear. I sighed.
"Look, if May isn't picking up your calls leave her alone. She's-"
"Someone took her." Sam's voice was loud and desperate as he cut me off, and I could hear the sound of an engine starting.
My heart stopped, and I felt like everything froze. Emma said something, but I couldn't hear. All I could hear was the humming in my ears, and the snarls of my wolf.
"What the fuck do you mean?" My voice didn't even sound like me.
"She called me. Told me someone was following her. I jumped into the car but I didn't know where to go, I asked her where she was and the phone went dead." He was yelling, the panic evident in his voice.
A growl ripped it's way through my throat, and I noticed Emma was standing in front of me, concern on her face.
"She went to the grocery store near the pack house, get there now. I'm on my way." With that I shoved the phone into my pocket, running to the door.
"Where are you going?" Emma yelled, chasing behind me.
"Someone took May. Sam called me and told me she called him." I managed to spit out, opening the door and slamming it.
In less than a second I had shifted, my back arching as my wolf exploded out of my body. I followed May's scent until it stopped abrupty, at a random place on a sidewalk.
A whine involuntarily slipped through my muzzle.
I didn't know where my mate was.
My thoughts were pushing as hard as they could against our mind link, which we had never used before, but there was a rock solid block in her mind. And I don't think she put it there.
Anger, hot and burning pooled in my stomach. My whole body shook in rage.
I was going to rip whoever did this apart, limb by limb.Calm down Riley, find her. She's okay, just find her.
I slowed my breathing, digging my claws into the pavement. The shaking in my body was still there, but I manage to calm down.
She was still alive, he knew this because the bond was still there. She was alive.
And she had to be ok.
