Chapter 5: Training

Ahch-To Island: Luke's and Rey's Location

Opening her eyes, after having a bit of rest from her journey to Ahch-To Island and reuniting with her father, Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight, Rey Skywalker sat up. Walking outside in the brushing winds of the island, the smells of the salty sea air, and the sight of grass, plains, rock mountains and vast ocean, she felt refreshed. More so, than any night she had ever spent on Jakku. Looking off, she saw her father, Luke Skywalker standing on hillside viewing the rolling waves of the ocean and contemplating the reunion with his daughter and the measures which were at stake. He did not have all the time granted to train his daughter in a Jedi like his students before who trained for years, but he had time to be with her and had time to show the means of being a defender, a protector, a keeper of the peace as what Jedi were intended to be from the very beginning. Standing beside him on the hillside, Rey lifted a smile, feeling she was finally at home.

Luke looked at Rey and said, "I was worried... worried many nights for you. I spend many nights on this hillside and on the mountains meditating and reaching out to feel your presence, your spirit out there amongst the stars." Luke explained, "While on the island, I had the grace to speak with many Jedi, Jedi who gave a deeper knowledge and understanding of the Force and its binding nature connecting all beings here and everywhere." He said to her, "These Jedi taught me how to reach to you when you were endangered and when you were weak providing strength to you in ways I didn't deem possible."

She looked at him with intention.

He said to her, "I know wasn't there by your side to hold you and to sit by you, to defend you and or protect you, but I felt it all." He said to her, "The Force runs deep our family." He said to her, "My father, Anakin Skywalker who was once Darth Vader and even, Leia Skywalker, my sister, had strong connections to the Force."

Rey then said to him, her drifting away thinking of him. "And Kylo Ren?"

"Ben Solo," Luke said to her, speaking his true name. "Ben Solo, my sister's son and grandson of Anakin Skywalker." He then raised the thought, "Do you know how the Darkside of the Force reaches individuals? How does he lure individuals in becoming his Sith?"

Rey wondered. "I never thought this before."

Luke said to her, "An interior separation, an interior disruption of will, truth and passion." He affirmed, "Ben Solo is his name." But he implied, "Kylo Ren is then given to him by the Darkside to separate him from the truth of his own being." He added, "This is also to my father who believed he was Darth Vader but at the glimmer of his own being, Anakin."

Rey said to him, recalling Han Solo's death, "I saw Ben Solo struggle with his father, Han Solo. I saw a flicker of light inside of him, but I also felt that darkness inside of him too."

Luke then said to him, "Ben Solo is still then alive."

Rey asked him, somewhat confused, "Can you forgive him?" With some anger, she implied, "Can you forgive that monster?" She told him, "He separated us from each other. He betrayed you and murdered your students."

Luke lowered his eyes saying, "It's not entirely his fault." He then explained, "Ben Solo, as a boy lived a difficult childhood. Han Solo saw the mystery of the Force and he didn't want his son to be involved in it. He wanted Ben to follow after him and live a life from the weight wielding the Force." He taught her, "Wielding the Force calls for responsibility."

Rey noted this to herself.

Luke continued, "Where Han Solo wanted to keep Ben away from the Force, the Force will always be with Ben regardless of the decision he'd learn to commune with it or not." He then thought of Leia and his last words to her, "Leia," he paused, thinking of his sister, "Leia wanted me to train Ben Solo into a Jedi in the defense he might turn towards the Darkside like our father, Anakin Skywalker, who became Darth Vader."
