RIVER

"Thank you for meeting with me, again."

I lift my gaze to Coach Lee, flashing my usual friendly smile at him. We just had practice a few hours ago, but he wanted to discuss something with me.

As the first time that I'm being in his office, i first notice how different it is from the one we had back in our high school. Both bigger and more modern, definitely an upgrade.

"Of course! My classes are over for the day anyway." I assure him it's no inconvenience on my part.

"How are you settling in?"

"Better than expected, actually, everyone has been amazing and it's nice to be with my friends," most people don't get so lucky, I'm aware of that.

He nods, "And figure skating?"

"You tell me, you're the Coach," I joke.

"Always been my best student, " he remarks proudly, probably flattering my ego more than enough, "Just don't tell Nash I said that."

"I will try my best," my grin is wicked, secretly wanting to brag all about to the grumpy guy.

Coach raises a brow, "How's things between you anyway? Still getting at each other's throats?"

"Depends," I smirk, "Metaphorically or literally?"

The man cringes, "Do I want to know?"

"Relax, Coach, I'm out of his league," maybe not, but today is not the day I'm admitting that so I stay delusional, "Though he's still fun to mess with."

"I think I'm too old, back in my time having fun was going out to clubs and falling in love." Coach shakes his head.

I chuckle, "We still do the first."

"And the latter?" he lifts a curious brow.

"Definitely not for me, at least right now, I don't think I could handle it." my lips purse, the truth coming out without much thought.

"You're still young, you have time," he nods in reassuring, even though he knows I'm not worried about rushing it, "Just don't date hockey players."

I roll my eyes, "I thought that rule was just for Sab."

"She better be following it," Coach shoots me a pointed look, trying to get any reaction out of me but I won't be that easy, "None of them deserve her."

"Does anybody?" I point out.

"You're right, my daughter should stay single for the rest of her life. She only needs one man in her life and that's me," he snaps his finger as if he just had the best idea of his life.

My lip pops, "And Dex."

"He's a good kid and she looks happy with him, but that's all I'm allowing." Coach makes it clear.

To be fair, besides the football guy in high school Sab was never too into sporty guys. Which works since her father is pretty serious about the whole off limits rule.
