RIVER

"You're getting good at those, kid."

Coach claps his hands in an approving way as I skate towards him on the ice. With a few deep breaths, to calm myself from de adrenaline, I high five him with both hands.

"It looks like today has been my lucky day," I shrug, biting back a smile as my mind wanders to thought of the night I had.

He lifts a brow, "Anything that might be the cause?"

"I think I saw a ladybug walking here through campus earlier," I feign innocence, clearly dodging the actual question there.

"Really, a ladybug." Coach's voice tells me he sees right through my bluff, but for both our sakes he won't pry further.

We step out of the rink, the skates sliding off my feet as soon as I find somewhere to sit. I put them back on my gym bag and tie my blonde hair on a tighter ponytail.

From the corner of my eye, I see a figure walking in our direction but it's not until I've fully changed shoes that I glance up and see who it is.

"Nash," Coach bobs his head in a greeting nod, checking his files before frowning, "I'm pretty sure our scheduled extra practice is only tomorrow.."

My eyes bounce between the two men, watching the brunette shake his head. His hands both shoved in his front pockets as his gaze shifts to me.

"I'm actually here for River," Kingston announces.

"Came to finally admit you've fallen hopelessly in love with me, Casanova?" I grin, avoiding the confused stare from the older man.

I guess Coach didn't expect for him to willingly be looking for me, I get it, but then again, I'm pretty sure I know what this is about. With a couple of blinks, the man decides to leaves us to it and walk away.

"Hardly, after all I'm not the one who decided to steal your things," Nash accesses me with an accusatory eyebrow, "I have to say, weird pick, I'd expect a hoodie maybe but not my sneakers."

"I did not steal them I simply... borrowed, besides Dex said you had like three pairs," I state in matter of fact, because I doubt he missed them that much.

He frowns, "Who has three pairs of the same shoes?"

"I found it weird too but by now nothing coming from you really surprises me," I shrug with a purse of my lips.

"Funny," Nash comments with the most humorless tone ever, before deadpanning, "Clearly, Dex wanted to mess with us for some reason."

"I mean, you're kinda getting a little too overworked because of a pair of shoes," I mimic with my fingers the small length of the problem, holding back a snort at his annoyance.

He glares at me, "That's what you got from this?"

"Well, that and the fact that you want me to take one of your hoodies next time," my teeth nibble on my bottom lip as I playfully add, "I just need to decide which one."

"You're not stealing my hoodies."

"Now I kinda want to."
