RIVER

"You guys think he will like it?"

Sabrina glances between the three of us, then back at the gift bucket, unsure. With light chuckles we give her reassuring nods.

"You're the best daughter he could ask for, Coach will love it." I hug her from the side, wanting her to believe my words because it's the truth.

Sab sighs, "He's been a little down since Benji told him he couldn't make it."

"That's exactly why you and Dex and his mom are taking him out tonight, so he will distract himself from that and have a good time," I point out.

"Mom never misses on making him laugh," Dex adds, catching up to my attempt of getting her in a good mood before both Lee's are sad.

"Yeah, Diana is pretty funny," Sabrina nods in agreement, my shoulders relaxing as her mood slowly lifts up again, "Not sure where those genes went though."

Dex quirks a brow, "You sure, butterfly?"

"I think you hit a soft spot, Sab, you know how he gets when say he's not funny," Nash sweeps a hand side to side on his neck, behind his best friend.

"Fuck off," he flips him off.

"Don't listen to them, Dex, they don't get your hilarious dark humor," I shake my head, patting his back in both pity and support.

"Hilarious or depressing?" Sab remarks.

"Hey, some of the best characters ever are members of the self-deprecating jokes club!" it makes them relatable, besides they're usually the hottest ones.

Nash frowns, "I think Fontaine is on drugs."

"The only one on drugs over here it's you, Casanova, and it's called the 'hopelessly in love with the best blonde' pill." I shoot him a cocky wink.

He smirks, "Best blonde as in Scarlet Johansson?"

"Oh please, she's way out of your league."

"Are you saying you're not?"

"I am, but little less realistically."

That's a total lie, if anything he's the one out of my league but over my dead am I ever admiring that out loud. Besides, he couldn't handle all this even if he tried.

"You two are something else," Dex shakes his head.

Sabrina nods, "I've quit trying to understand."

Offended by their words, especially coming for the golden duo who are so easy to get, we both turn our heads to them at the same time. Then we flip them off.

Exchanging a look, the decide better against trying to argue with us and walk off to put the gift bucket on Dex's car.

It's starting to feel like a coincidence, being left alone with Nash so many times. Either it's a prank from the Universe or that thing people like to call fate.
