Chapter Two: The Alphas Meet

She's so nervous about this meeting. Kiadaria feels a keen sharp stabbing feeling in her belly that usually only comes from moments spent alone with Joshua. Her hunter's instinct is so sure that something unexpected may occur but in her rational mind, there is nothing she can place her finger on. The Rising Moon pack and The Shining Moon packs have historically been sister packs, but the changes in Alpha's have caused some disharmony in the recent years.

Joshua challenged his father, Alpha Alexander, for the Alpha title and won when he was seventeen years old. It sent a shock to Alpha Marcus of The Shining Moon pack who did not like that Joshua dethroned his father. This wasn't 'The Way', and there was more to come, more than anyone may have guessed. The young Joshua shows that he is a man of ambition, impulsive, and loyal to himself. However what caused a deeper divide was the fact that Joshua declared Kiadaria his unofficial Luna at the same time he snatched power from the reigning Alpha, a big no no to the traditions of the wolves.

The packs were outraged. The standing tradition is that the Luna is chosen by the Alpha via the mate bond. Once female wolves turn twenty-one they can be sensed by their given mate. The mate bond is like soul mates. The outrage was that essentially Joshua was pre-rejecting his true mate but also stopping the possibility that Kiadaria would ever find her given mate. It was also that Joshua was saying he didn't bow to the moon goddess and that is akin to sacrilege to the community.

The Rising Moon pack didn't initially like the idea of their Luna being chosen outside of tradition. Whispers of the new unofficial Luna being a witch spread like wildfire and hurt Kiadraria's feelings deeply as she already battled being claimed against her will and being thrust into a role she did not want to take. The stoic nature and fierce battling stance that Kiadaria became known for was born out of the whispers of her being a power hungry slut.

Joshua killed all found accusing Kiadaria of being a witch and that magic influenced his desire and will to possess her.

Yet the suspicion could never be stamped out.

He also declared her position unofficial, only until her 21st birthday where she would be expected to reject her true mate. That action sealed any hope the pack had that Joshua would come to his senses and submit to the fate of the Moon Goddess.

However that day has not yet happened, the day she meets her true fated mate and Kiadaria hopes she will never have to meet that date.

Kiadaria stands tall and clears her throat as she stands at the luna's place beside Joshua. Her hands are clasped behind her back and she gazes at the entering alpha and his beta. Joshua, her unofficial mate and Alpha, exudes a dark and deadly energy that surrounds him at all times.

She can't help but to notice the way his broad shoulders fill out his leather jacket which makes him appear more menencing. His face looks as hard as marble and features carved out of stone as his jaw grits.

The battle scars that litter his face and body seals the erasure of the sweet boy who had been her friend. Kiadaria never guessed the man that Joshua would grow into, and while fearing him, she notes the grimy beauty he holds.

His piercing blue eyes betray nothing on his mind, but sparkle with cunning and confidence. At thirty three, Joshua is a seasoned Alpha having lead the pack since seventeen.

She feels conflicted, as always as her gaze focuses on Joshua a moment longer. Her eyes drift away searching for something more, something that would set her soul free. And that's when they find Darius at the end of the table, having entered the room.

As Darius' calm and gentle eyes took in the room, it wasn't long before piercing brown eyes collided with Kiadaria's green ones. The longer he stared the more electricity flicked along her spine and goosebumps scattered her back. She quickly looks down, not wanting to anger Joshua, but Darius feels like ice sliding against her skin in a humid hazy mid summer day.
