Chapter Six: New Beginnings (Part One)
Kiadaria and Darius arrived at the Shining Moon pack, which was a shocking event for the pack. Already, the events of the day have spread like wildfires through the world of wolves. Kiadaria could sense the questioning energy of the wolves around her but outwardly displays strength. She may have only been the unofficial, chosen Luna of Rising Moon pack, but she is the fated Luna of the Shining Moon pack, and she knows that ultimately the wolves will accept the tradition.
It's a confidence she fakes but a tactic she needs to survive. Her mind whirls as she can't believe she is on foreign soil and unshackled by Joshua's lunacy.
She doesn't have much time to engage in the pack politics as she immediately takes sanctuary in the Luna suit and cleans up her face from claw marks from Joshua. As she stares into the mirror, she knows that while not disfigured, the scars will always linger. The rest of the day goes by in an isolated blur, and she is thankful Darius didn't impose.
Kiadaria shoots up and pushes her hair off her sweaty face.
Her heart thuds against her chest wildly and painfully. Kiadaria closes her eyes and struggles to breathe calmly as she fights against the trembling of her body. The dream that she's awakened from is unlike any dream she's had before.
Kiadaria is surrounded by an unfamiliar and ancient forested scenery.
She doesn't recognize this place, but in the dream, it feels like somewhere she's been often. The trees are majestic and boldly twist up into the sky, appearing to mingle with the horizon. Immediately, she smells the stench of blood and war in the air.
Joshua stands across from her, his shirt tattered and chest heaving as he stares at her with determination and awe. A blue line from his chest touches her chest, electricity runs through the line, and pulls her towards him. The pull pulses and aches, it's hot, heavy, and feels unsoothed until she can reach him; reach Joshua.
...But Darius stands beside her and grabs her hand.
Suddenly, they run as fast as their legs can take them through the forest.
Everything appears blurry to her as rain pelts from above and beats against their faces and bodies harshly. Thundering shakes the earth, and lightning cracks the skies. Kiadaria loses her footing and slips. Once Darius is no longer holding her hand, she sees the blue line coming out of her chest and follows its form to the opposite end, where she sees Joshua.
Her breath hitches as she meets his blue cerulean eyes.
His eyes pleaded..." I love you. I need you. I want you. I crave you. I miss you. I choose you, and I choose you every time. I'm sorry...I didn't mean it...it wasn't me...it was the..."
Kiadaria can barely process the guilt and the desire she feels for Joshua when Darius scoops her into his arms and runs with her. The scene warps once more, and she finds herself standing between Joshua and Darius.
The chanting of: Witch, witch, witch...starts as barely audible and becomes louder.
The louder the words become, the more the burning sensation in her ears becomes unbearable. Kiadaria covers her ears, whimpering from the pain as blood slides out of each ear opening and down the sides of her neck.
"Which one?!" She yells from her gut in a mourning-filled cry.
Kiadaria, in the dream, understands the whisper comes from some powerful being that wants her to choose, and with that understanding, she realizes that if she chooses wrong, an innocent man will die.
