Chapter Four: Moonlit Secrets
Kiadaria is happy that things have seemed to die down since the full moon ritual.
Having fallen back into her Luna duties has made her nerves settle about the state of knowing her destined mate. Darius hasn't made any unwelcome pop-ups in The Rising Moon territory. And yet, Kiadaria works to stay busy so she doesn't have to mull over Darius' parting words. Every time the conversation comes back to mind, her stomach shifts with unease. Also, she struggles with the sense that Joshua doesn't seem to trust her and she can't determine why, but she thinks maybe her guilt is making him feel suspicious of her.
Keeping my true mate away from him is a reason for distrust.
She knows that technically she is wrong to keep the secret from Joshua, but his suspicion makes her sort of angry. She has dedicated herself to being his Luna and to this pack. Kiadaria never wanted to be his mate, and yet considers rejecting Darius, and feels hateful that Joshua would even think she could be an enemy. Kiadaria sees the success of Joshua and the pack as her own, because it is. Even though Joshua brags and claims all the glory for himself, Kiadaria has been faithful, although lonely, and pushed away her hopes of true love for greatness.
He doesn't even begin to consider the sacrifices I've made, that we've ALL made.
She's so angry, and so she's shifted.
She goes on a run by herself.
"Look, I don't trust him. He's arrogant. He's nosy, and he wants you. Can't you see that?" Joshua is beyond frustrated. "All I'm pointing out is that you should be careful around him and make sure you're not easily swayed."
Her eyes burn with angry tears, and her massive paws beat the ground with each heavy leap of speed. The earlier spat replays in her mind. She's not dumb, Kiadaria realizes that Joshua doesn't trust her. He doubts her ability and overall doesn't believe in her loyalty to the pack.
I AM Luna. I have BEEN Luna. What YOU WANTED!
"Fuck you Josh!" She spits out. "You're as insane as you've ALWAYS been. To doubt my loyalty is the last thing I would ever expect of you. I've given you my youth. I've given you the place of my true mate! I missed out on having dates, a BOYFRIEND, and having a group of friends. Everyone HATES me or FEARS me because of YOU."
And he doubts me!
Kiadaria shouts in her mind as she picks up speed. She runs with a reckless abandon through the denser part of the forest. There isn't a place she's going, it's just to go.
She just wants to burn out the fury.
All I've done as Luna, and this is how he repays me?
I get DOUBT?
I GET MISTRUST?!
Her fur is ruffled in the wind as she goes into a frenzy, running at her top speed. Turning the bend, she stills. Her instinct heightens as she catches the whiff of an odour. It's not familiar, but it's been smelled at least once before. A strange wolf pops out into her path- Ryker of some neighboring pack that Kiadaira can't remember the name of.
The pack isn't special.
The wolf is unfriendly, baring teeth with frayed fur.
"If it isn't the witch. Where are you off to so fast? Another Alpha to charm? Another pack to ruin?" He communicates telepathically.
There's obvious danger.
So she growls in warning. Kiadaria doesn't revel in fights, but knows they are necessary as her muzzle wrinkles, and her teeth are bared.
