The next afternoon, Shreya gathered everyone together. "Hey, guys! Rajveer and I found out there's a beautiful waterfall nearby. How about we go check it out?"
Everyone agreed, excitement sparking in their eyes at the thought of an adventure. Shreya and Rajveer exchanged a knowing glance, subtly ensuring that Advait and Naina would end up together.
"Um, alright, let's go! Yay!" Shreya cheered, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm that spread through the group like wildfire.
As they moved forward, Shreya suddenly stopped, a small frown creasing her forehead. "Oh no! I forgot my phone back at the camp. I wanted to take pictures, huhu," she said, her voice tinged with disappointment. She gave Rajveer a subtle nod, silently urging him to play along.
"Oho! That's fine, don't worry. We can get it from the camp," Rajveer said reassuringly, his tone warm and comforting.
"Um, guys, you go on ahead. We'll join you after we retrieve my poor phone," Shreya added with a playful wink, her eyes twinkling as she and Rajveer turned back toward the camp.
As they walked back, Shreya giggled softly, unable to contain her amusement. "Gosh! It's so hard to keep both of them together, no?" she said, glancing up at Rajveer with a mischievous grin.
"Well, that's right! But we can't help it," Rajveer replied, a chuckle escaping his lips. Then, with a teasing glint in his eyes, he added, "So, Miss Shreya, what about you? Whom are you looking for?"
Shreya felt a flutter of confusion and something else she couldn't quite place. "Wha- oh! You mean for 'something something,'" she said, rolling her eyes in mock annoyance, though a smile tugged at her lips.
"Huh! What else could it be? We're here to couple them up... so the hot topic is this only," Rajveer said, his tone light yet probing.
Why does he need to be so straightforward? Oh, I mean, yes, I want him to ask about it... But not so directly... Aahhh!! What should I tell him? Say no to keep it secret, or yes to see his curiosity? Hmph! Why is this so hard...
"Oh, hello, Miss? Lost?" Rajveer's voice broke through her thoughts.
"Of course not. I'd like to keep you in the dark," Shreya said with a confident smile, though her heart was pounding.
Meanwhile, on the other side... Naina and Advait.
Both were walking forward in silence, the kind that felt heavy and awkward. Advait, who usually thrived in silence, found himself restless, the quiet between them unsettling.
"They're taking so much time to come," Advait finally said, his voice breaking the stillness as he carefully navigated the rocks and leaves beneath their feet.
"Umm... maybe they're lost or something. I think we should call them," Naina suggested, her voice small as she followed Advait's lead, her thoughts swirling with uncertainty.
Yes, they both had already headed toward the waterfall, but the distance between them felt larger than ever.
Back at the camp, Rajveer noticed the two phones Shreya was holding. "What is this, Shreya? Whose phones are these?" he asked, curiosity piqued.
"Ofoo, you ask a lot of questions. Shhh!! Let me hide them somewhere," Shreya said, her voice a playful whisper as she tucked one phone under the camp bed and another beside the fruit basket in Naina's camp. She smirked, pleased with herself. "These are their phones. I somehow managed to get them so they won't be disturbed by stupid calls."
"Wohoho!! Shreyyyaaaaa!! You're just-" Rajveer's words trailed off as he suddenly pulled Shreya into a hug, his arms wrapping around her with surprising warmth.
Shreya's eyes widened in shock. She could feel the steady rhythm of Rajveer's heartbeat against her chest, a sensation that sent a wave of warmth through her. She was totally surprised by his sudden move, but the comfort of his embrace made her hesitate to let go. Instead, she tightened her arms around him, savoring the closeness. For a second, they both forgot everything else, lost in their own little world.
But then, reality hit, and Rajveer slowly pulled away from the hug, his expression a mix of embarrassment and something else-something softer.
"I'm sorry," they both blurted out at the same time, the awkwardness of the moment hanging in the air.
To diffuse the tension, they decided to head to the waterfall, their conversation shifting to safer, lighter topics.
"Umm... so... What did you use to do before this?" Rajveer asked casually, trying to keep the conversation going as they walked.
"What do you mean by 'this'?" Shreya asked, her brow furrowing in confusion.
"I mean before working at Rajput Company."
"Ohh!! Haha! I like teaching. I was a teacher. Umm... I just wanted to support my family financially, so yeah... decided to work while studying," she explained, her voice tinged with a bit of embarrassment.
Rajveer noticed the slight blush that spread across her cheeks, and his heart softened. He decided to speak from his own heart. "Well, to be very honest, I'm amazed. I mean, wow! Indeed, it's a big and encouraging step. I really like-" He paused, suddenly feeling nervous, a rare occurrence for him. His hesitation made Shreya's heart race, her breath catching in her throat as she waited for him to finish.
Finally, he spoke, his voice soft and sincere, "I really like the way you think, Miss Shreya." His gaze held hers, and in that moment, it felt like the rest of the world faded away.
Shreya couldn't handle the intensity of Rajveer's gaze, and a knot of nervous excitement formed in her stomach. Butterflies-no, a whole swarm-fluttered wildly within her, making her feel lightheaded and giddy.
Oh my god! What's happening... Butterflies? I'm getting butterflies just from his words? Aahh!! What are you doing, Mr. Rajveer? At this rate, I'd die before my time.
The moment was charged with emotion, the air between them thick with unspoken feelings. But just as Shreya was about to say something, her phone buzzed loudly, snapping her out of the trance.
"Oh no! Shit! 10+ missed calls from Advait sir... Oh no!! Rajveeeerrrrrr!! Something's wrong, I guess. Sir never called me this much. Maybe Naina- Oh no, no, no, no! I don't even want to think about it," Shreya's voice was laced with worry, her heart pounding in her chest.
"Calm down, Shreya... Let me check my phone and talk to him first," Rajveer said, his tone soothing as he reached out to caress her hair, trying to calm her down.
"Gosh!! I too have 10+ missed calls... I think we should rush. Oh, wait, there's a message too!" Rajveer said, his own anxiety beginning to creep in.
"What are you waiting for, Rajveer? Open it, please!!!" Shreya urged, her hands trembling slightly as she rubbed them together in anxiety.
"Shit! Shreyaaaaaaa... We need to go... right now!" Rajveer's voice was filled with urgency.
"But whe-" Rajveer didn't let Shreya finish her words and grabbed her hand, pulling her back towards the camp. The adrenaline coursing through their veins, they quickly jumped into their car and sped off, their hearts pounding with fear and anticipation of what awaited them.
