So, everything is going fine. I mean, it's been two weeks since we confessed our feelings for each other. After that, our midterm exams were going on. We talked at night, but only for a bit, as we decided to focus on studying. He is still the same. We smile at each other, and sometimes he would just say nothing and stare at me from far away. I am loving this new feeling. I hope everything is going fine.
But then, today, our teachers started to give our papers back to us. I have tried my best in every exam, and I hope I can get good marks. But let's see-everything doesn't always go as we think it will. In English, Computer science, and Chemistry, I did well. I got 48, 46, and 45 marks. I don't know about my Physics and Maths marks, though. I was sitting patiently, waiting for the teacher to call me for my Physics paper.
The teacher called Lakhsya. I watched as he stood up and went to the teacher. The teacher smiled and said, "Good, you have the highest marks in class." He smiled, taking his paper, and then looked at me. I smiled proudly and mouthed, "Very good."
He smiled more before going back to his seat. After some time, the teacher called my name. I went towards him. He handed me my paper, saying, "I expected more from you, Meera. You have the potential to do much better. Don't let these small mistakes hold you back. Pay more attention to the details next time."
I went back to my seat, looking at my paper. It was 30 out of 50. Wow. I was expecting at least above 35, but I checked my paper and saw that I had made some mistakes in a few places. I did my best, but it didn't pay off. I became sad after the period was over.
It was the fourth period now, and our Maths teacher started to distribute our papers. In Maths, I got 29 out of 50. Right. I was not expecting too much in Maths because I know my Maths is weak. I always try my best. I practice Maths very hard, but in a rush, I always make silly mistakes. In the exam hall, I always couldn't manage my time, and because of that, I am always in a rush. It's not that I am making excuses, but I did try my best.
After that, it was lunch break. Everyone was out on the ground. Rani, Preeti, and I also sat and started to talk and eat. I did my best not to show my sadness to them, and it worked. After that, our next period was free. Rani and Preeti said they were going to play badminton and asked me to join them, but I declined, saying I didn't want to. They went to play, and I sat on the stairs on the playground, watching others play.
As I sat on the stairs, staring out at the playground, I tried to push away the disappointment gnawing at me. I had worked so hard for these exams, but my physics and maths results were far from what I had hoped. I couldn't help but feel like I had let myself down.
Suddenly, I felt someone sit down beside me. I turned my head and saw Lakhsya, his presence bringing a sudden warmth to my heart. He kept a respectful distance, but his eyes were filled with concern as they met mine.
"Hey," he said softly, breaking the silence between us.
"Hi," I replied, trying to muster a small smile.
