Djinns and Genies are no rare occurrence in the folktales of Sumeru.
As a Haravatat, Alhaitham has heard of many stories regarding this mythical being known to be granting wishes left and right. Although these stories pose as unbelievable, many evidence of their existence actually lingered around the ruins of the deserts of Sumeru. Lamps, bottles that used to be an entities habitat, mural paintings of colored humans, or even temples that worships such beings loiters around the sea of sand that Sumeru caters.
Alhaitham has always known that these creatures are bound to exist however, he has no use of them. All his wishes have already come true.
He had a well-paying job enough that his monthly salary is another man's yearly salary.
Money is never an issue even if he buys himself a new lot of land every month.
He does not have any illnesses that needs to be healed.
And most importantly...
He is married to the man of his dreams. Sumeru's most desired beauty and the senior whom he pined for all his life.
What even does he need?
And so, here he is in the middle of the desert staring face to face with a genie inside a lamp he just barely grazed with his fingers from a desolate temple he found near the place of his purpose.
He just came here to collect mourning flowers to gift for Kaveh when he triggered an unknown mechanism opening this temple somewhere maybe only the archons know. The thirst for knowledge was what led him at where he is now.
He didn't intend to awaken this- whatever this is. He just accidentally grazes the lamp with his finger as he walked around and now this green skinned being arose from its slumber claiming to be some Genie that could grant him three wishes.
To which he just raises a brow on.
"I want nothing really." The Grand Sage stated as he found a comfortable stone to rest on and flipped his book open to read.
"What do you mean nothing?!" The Genie exclaimed in disbelief. "Surely, there's something you want! Like power?"
"I'm already a Grand Sage, and it's a position a step lower than the Archon of Sumeru. Honestly, I already want to be demoted."
"Then, wealth?"
"My annual salary per month is enough to feed an entire slum."
"T-then... Ah! I know! Love! Do you have someone you love? I can make them fall head over heels for you!"
Alhaitham sighed and close the book. He didn't reply to the genie's inquiries this time.
"I really don't lack anything. I am completely happy with what I have."
"Then why did the temple let you in in the first place?!"
Interest sparked in the Grand Sage's head and he glance at the slumping genie in front of him.
"What do you mean by that?"
The Genie glanced at the interest in the man's eyes and let out another defeated sigh.
"Genies and Djinns doesn't particularly grants anyone's wishes. Djinns has a contract with the person they grant a wish with. Like some sort of exchange." Alhaitham attentively listened to the new information in his head. "Whereas, we Genies sought those whose heart is filled with something."
"And that something being?"
The genie chuckled. "Anything could be a something child. Like wrath, guilt, sadness, void."
