RIO'S VOICE WAS CALM, but his irritation was clearly evident as he questioned, "the fuck were you guys doing on this street?"
vivienne exchanged a nervous glance with hope, sharing just half of the truth that they were "walking home" until hope started complaining and urged rio to pick them up.
rio, clearly unconvinced, gritted his teeth and sharply turned a corner as he prodded further, "walking home this way? don't bullshit me, vivienne."
as hope sighed, vivienne feared it was all over, knowing how difficult it was for hope to keep secrets under pressure. "fine, we ran into nate on the way and walked him to the sturniolo's place," she lied.
"just nate, huh?" rio questioned skeptically.
"just nate," she replied, managing to plaster a smile on her face.
he let out a sigh and changed the subject, surprising vivienne with how quickly he backed down from pushing for answers. she guessed that it must have been due to his soft spot for hope.
