ITS BEEN ALMOST TWO WEEKS since vivienne threw the ball at madeline. now, matt finds himself walking through the bustling mall, with madeline holding tightly onto his arm. whenever they were in a crowd or inside a store, she would discreetly reach up to her nose and press it, feigning a pained expression that prompted an exasperated eye roll from chris and occasionally from matt, who noticed her vigilance.
meanwhile, matt sits on a bench and watches his brother's increasing distress as he paces around the store. for the past ten minutes in each store they entered, he had been voicing his frustration, "what am i supposed to get a girl for a two-year anniversary?"
matt felt a sudden shock as chris mentioned the two-year mark. "two years? it's been that long?" he gulped, trying to wrap his head around the passing time. "isn't it months away? why are we looking now?" he asked, genuinely puzzled.
chris let out a weary sigh. "you know how she is. i need it to be perfect," he explained, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
