「 real life 」
─ real life ☼THE MORNING SUN POURED THROUGH THE CLASSROOM WINDOWS, casting a golden light over the desks and illuminating the chaos of student chatter. vivienne sat at her usual spot, flipping through her notebook, but her mind was elsewhere. the events of the past few weeks loomed over her like a dark cloud, and she couldn't shake the feeling of worry for matt. he was suspended after that fight, and the whispers about him had only gotten louder since his absence. she glanced at the clock, wishing it would move faster, but instead, it seemed to mock her with its slowness.
just then, the classroom door swung open, and a familiar face stepped inside. kai entered with an air of tension. his usual confidence was replaced by an unusual vulnerability, and the murmurs in the room quieted as eyes turned toward him. a fresh bandage adorned his nose, a stark reminder of the fight that had left him bruised and battered. vivienne felt her stomach twist. she had hoped she wouldn't have to see him again, especially not after the fight.
"can i talk to you?" he said, his voice barely above a whisper as he approached her desk, ignoring the glances of disbelief from their classmates.
vivienne stiffened, not even bothering to respond. she had no interest in hearing what he had to say. the memory of matt's fury and the aftermath of the fight flooded her mind, and she could feel her heart race with resentment.
"vivienne, please," kai pleaded, glancing nervously around the room. "i just want to explain."
"explain?" she echoed incredulously, crossing her arms defiantly. "you think you can just waltz in here and explain away what happened?"
"i know, i know," he rushed to say, his expression desperate. "but i didn't care what i did to matt. it was just a fight. i wanted to show everyone i'm not some push-over. you know how it is. it's stupid, i get it."
vivienne felt her anger flare. "that's just it, kai! you're so wrapped up in your own ego."
"i get that now. but i came here for another reason," he continued, his voice dropping slightly. "i want to apologize for trying to kiss you that night. i shouldn't have done that, especially when you made it clear you weren't interested. it was wrong, and i'm sorry for putting you in that position."
vivienne blinked, taken aback by his admission. "you think a half-hearted apology changes everything? you think that makes what you did okay?"
"no, i don't," he said, looking genuinely remorseful. "i just thought maybe you'd understand that i was caught up in the moment. it was a mistake, and i should have respected your boundaries. i'm really sorry."
"your 'moment' doesn't excuse anything," she said firmly, her voice steady despite the tumult of emotions swirling inside her. "you put me in a really uncomfortable situation, and you have no idea how that felt."
"i know i messed up," he said, running a hand through his hair in frustration, causing the bandage on his nose to shift slightly. "and i didn't mean to cause any trouble for you. i just thought i could—"
"thought you could what?" she interrupted, her tone sharp. "prove something to yourself? make me forget? you really have no idea what's at stake here."
kai stepped back slightly, the weight of her words hitting him hard. "i know it sounds bad, and it is. i just wanted you to hear it from me. i didn't think about how it would affect you. i was being selfish, and i regret that."
vivienne took a deep breath, trying to rein in her anger. "you should have thought about that before you acted. i don't have time for your apologies when you don't even grasp the consequences of your actions."
"i get that," kai replied, his voice softening. "i really do. i've been an idiot. i'm not trying to make excuses for myself, but i wanted you to know that i didn't mean for any of this to happen. and i'm really sorry for trying to kiss you. i never wanted to cross that line."
at that, vivienne felt a strange mix of emotions, anger and a hint of understanding. "you don't get to play the victim here, kai. you made choices, and now you have to deal with them."
he sighed, his shoulders slumping. "i'm not asking for your forgiveness, but i wanted you to know i didn't mean to drag you into all this. i just thought you should hear it from me, not through whispers and rumors."
as she looked at him, she saw a glimmer of sincerity in his eyes, but it wasn't enough to soften her heart. "i don't want to hear it from you at all. i care about matt, and i'm not interested in whatever you think you're trying to salvage. you need to stay out of our lives."
"i will," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "i just wanted to make sure you knew i didn't mean for any of this to happen. i'll leave you alone now."
as he turned to walk away, vivienne felt a strange mix of relief and lingering anger. she hated that he had the audacity to come to her, and yet a part of her recognized the weight of his words.
just then, the bell rang, signaling the end of class. students began to file out of the room, but vivienne remained seated for a moment, lost in thought. she knew she needed to focus on matt and be there for him as he dealt with the aftermath of everything that had happened.
taking a deep breath, she stood and gathered her things. as she stepped into the hallway, the whispers continued to swirl around her, but she blocked them out.
