"Okay, so tell me... now that Mom isn't around, tell me what it was really like meeting Harry," Harley asked later that night after they got ready for bed.
She walked into the bedroom, eyeing the cardboard cut-out of fetus Harry before she took a seat at the end of Tegan's childhood bed.
"Oh my god," Tegan sighed airily.
"Seriously, tell me. I drove almost two hours for this," Harley insisted, sending her little sister a wide smile.
"It was... life-changing," Tegan told her vaguely.
"Oh my god. Tell me!" Harley squealed excitedly.
"So, I mean, it was awkward..."
"Did you guys talk afterward?"
"Yes. And it was so incredibly awkward. I wanted to die. Literally," Tegan groaned, thinking about how stupid and unworthy she felt in his presence.
"But? I'm sure he made you feel better, right?"
"Yeah. He is Harry Styles after all," Tegan joked, smiling from ear-to-ear thinking about him. He was still high up on that pedestal in her mind.
"Well?" Harley asked impatiently.
"He, uh... he asked if I wanted to have coffee with him," Tegan revealed.
"Oh my god," Harley hissed under her breath, looking at her wide-eyed.
"So, uh... we did," Tegan confirmed.
"And?"
"And we talked for a while. I told him how we all watched their season of the X-Factor on shitty livestreams back in 2010 and he talked about what it was like to be on the show and what it was like touring for years on end. It was just so nice to be there with him, you know?"
"That's so exciting! But tell me he didn't only talk about himself. Like, he's not just some narcissist in disguise, is he?"
"Oh, no. Absolutely not," Tegan answered immediately.
"Good!"
"He's amazing. He's exactly how we know him to be. He's sweet and funny and just so precious, Harley," Tegan gushed, feeling so much love for him.
"I cannot believe this is happening!" Harley freaked out, clapping her hands excitedly.
"I haven't even got to the best parts yet," Tegan giggled, watching her sister happily. She knew Harley was going to lose it when she told her the rest of the story.
"Oh my god. There's more?"
"So much more," Tegan told her.
Harley let out a breath, like she was preparing for life-changing news. Which, maybe it was. After all, her little sister may or may not be dating Harry Styles.
"So, uh... we talked for a long time. And uh, after, when he had to leave, he asked for my number..."
"Oh my god," Harley breathed, casually looking over at Tegan's phone that sat on the nightstand by the bed. She was well aware that it held the Holy Grail of phone numbers in it.
"Still not the good part," Tegan laughed.
"You're going to have to just ignore my gushing because I'm honestly not going to stop," Harley told her bluntly.
"So, yeah. He asked for my number and – no wait, he asked if he could take me out some time first, then asked for my number," Tegan explained, back-tracking a little.
