The tension between Destiny and her father, Joseph, had been simmering for years, but today it reached a boiling point.
The argument started over something trivial, as usual, but quickly escalated into a full-blown shouting match.
"Destiny, you're wasting your potential! Do you even realize the opportunities you're throwing away?" Joseph's voice echoed through the large, but cold, mansion.
Destiny crossed her arms, her frustration was evident in every sharp breath. "What opportunities, Dad? The ones where I become your puppet? I'm not interested."
Joseph slammed his hand on the table, his patience wearing thin. "You don't understand how this industry works. If you could just get Durk to sign with me, it would be a game-changer for both of us!"
Destiny shook her head, her eyes narrowing. "I know exactly how this industry works, and that's why I'm not going to do it. I'm not selling out my friends for your agenda."
"He's not your friend," Joseph shot back. "He's a business opportunity. You need to start thinking like an adult, Destiny."
"And you need to start thinking like a father!" Destiny yelled, her voice cracking with the weight of unspoken pain. "All you care about is your damn deals. You've never cared about what I want, about who I am!"
Joseph opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. Instead, he just stared at her, his expression a mix of anger and something else regret, maybe. But before he could say anything, Destiny turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
As she walked through the mansion, her heart heavy with the familiar ache of disappointment, she couldn't help but wonder how things had gotten this bad. They were family, but there was no love in their home, only business. And Destiny was tired of it.
Later that day, she met up with India, hoping that spending time with her friend would take her mind off things. They decided to get their nails done at a chic salon in the city. The atmosphere was light, the scent of nail polish and the hum of soft music providing a much-needed escape from her earlier argument.
India, oblivious to the mess Destiny was feeling, chatted excitedly about her relationship. "You know, Durk and I have been really good lately. He's been so sweet, and I just... I love him so much. It's crazy how things worked out."
Destiny forced a smile, nodding along. "That's great, India. I'm really happy for you."
India grinned, her eyes sparkling. "And I'm happy we became friends. It was so random, but I really needed someone like you in my life. You've got this realness about you that I appreciate."
Destiny felt a pang of guilt in her chest, knowing that she wasn't being entirely honest with India. But what could she say? That she was fighting an attraction to her best friend's boyfriend? That her dad was trying to use Durk for his own gain? The weight of it all was suffocating, but she pushed it down, focusing on the moment instead.
