Destiny's phone buzzed as she was finishing up her makeup, preparing for a night out with Von. It was a message from her brother, Jalen.
Jalen: Yo, can I crash at your place for a few days? Things at the house are tense again.
Destiny paused, reading the text a couple of times. Her brother didn't reach out often, and when he did, it usually meant things were bad at home. She sighed, typing a quick reply.
Destiny: Yeah, of course. I'll leave a key under the mat. You can stay as long as you need.
As she hit send, she heard Von honk outside. She quickly grabbed her clutch and made her way out the door. Tonight was Durk's birthday bash, and Dayvon had asked her to come with him.
They had spent the afternoon shopping for matching outfits, something cute but still edgy enough for the club. Destiny was dressed in a fitted black leather skirt with a matching top, while Von wore an all black ensemble with a red jacket to make their look pop.
"You look fire," Von said with a grin as Destiny slid into the passenger seat. He leaned over and gave her a quick kiss before pulling out of her driveway.
"You don't look so bad yourself," Destiny replied, smiling as she adjusted her hair. They were in for a wild night at their favorite club, and she was ready to let loose.
As they arrived at the club, the vibe was lit. The music could be heard from the parking lot, and a line of flashy cars was pulling up to the entrance. Paparazzi lights flashed in every direction, capturing the big event. Destiny and Von stepped out of the car, catching a few eyes with their coordinated outfits as they walked inside.
Once inside, the club was packed. The dance floor was swarming with bodies, the lights were flashing in every color, and the DJ was hyping up the crowd. Destiny's gaze scanned the room, and that's when she saw it Durk and India, front and center in the VIP section.
They were wrapped up in each other, completely lost in their own world. India was sitting on Durk's lap, a bottle of champagne in one hand while the other was wrapped around his neck. He was whispering something in her ear, and she was laughing, their faces close too close.
Destiny's heart sank. A wave of frustration and anger hit her as she watched them, and she couldn't look away. She knew this was supposed to be his night, but seeing them like that, so public and carefree, it stung in a way she didn't expect.
Von must've noticed her change in mood because he leaned in, his hand resting on the small of her back.
"You good?" he asked, his voice low so only she could hear.
Destiny shook her head, biting her lip.
"I'm fine," she lied, even though the sight of Durk and India together made her stomach twist.
She tried to focus on Von, on the fun they were supposed to be having, but it was hard to ignore the way Durk seemed completely absorbed in India.
Von glanced toward the VIP section and quickly pieced together what was bothering her. He straightened up and smirked.
