Destiny had been avoiding Durk ever since that morning at his apartment. She ignored his texts, let his calls go to voicemail, and did everything she could to keep her mind off him.

But no matter how hard she tried, thoughts of him kept creeping back in. She didn't understand why she felt this way after all, she barely knew him. But there was something about Durk that drew her in, something magnetic and dangerous, something she knew she couldn't have.

And then there was the pressure from her father, Joseph. He had been relentless, constantly reminding her that she needed to get Durk to sign with him. "This is a big opportunity for us, Destiny," he would say, his voice filled with the weight of expectation. But every time he brought it up, it only made her feel worse. How could she push Durk into something like that when she wasn't even sure where they stood?

As the day dragged on, Destiny tried to push everything out of her mind. But just as she was beginning to relax, her phone buzzed with a message from the group chat. Ari and India were asking if they could come over to hang out. Destiny was about to start working at a school the next week, and they wanted to spend time together before her schedule got crazy.

Destiny hesitated, a wave of guilt washing over her. She knew she hadn't been completely honest with India, especially after what happened with Durk. But at the same time, she couldn't push her friends away, especially not now.

"Yeah, come over," she texted back, trying to sound casual. "Would be good to see y'all."

A few hours later, there was a knock at her door. Destiny opened it, expecting to see just Ari and India, but to her surprise, Durk was with them, along with Booka and Dayvon.

Her heart skipped a beat at the sight of him, and she quickly looked away, hoping no one would notice the sudden tension in the air.

"Hey, girl!" Ari greeted her with a big hug, oblivious to Destiny's inner thoughts. "We missed you!"

India hugged her next, smiling brightly. "Yeah, it's been too long. We brought reinforcements, though figured it'd be fun to get everyone together."

Destiny forced a smile, trying to keep her cool. "Yeah, for sure. Come on in."

As everyone filed into the living room, Destiny caught a brief glance from Durk. It was quick, but in that split second, she saw the same confusion and frustration in his eyes that she'd been feeling.

He didn't say anything, though, just followed the others inside, acting as if nothing had happened between them.

The room was soon filled with laughter and conversation, but Destiny couldn't shake the unease that had settled in her chest. She knew she had to keep up appearances, to pretend like everything was fine.
