Destiny wasn't sure what to make of India's sudden invitation. India had hit her up early in the morning, casually asking if she wanted to hang out for lunch and maybe go to few stores afterward.
It wasn't out of the ordinary for them to hang out in the past, but lately, with everything going on between Destiny and Durk, the dynamic felt... off.
She stood in front of the mirror, brushing her curls down as she got dressed. Why does she wanna hang out all of a sudden? The thought lingered in her mind as she threw on a simple cropped hoodie and high waisted jeans, keeping it lowkey for the day.
As she headed out, she couldn't shake the weird feeling that had settled in her chest. India knew Durk was involved in Destiny's life in some way maybe not the full extent, but she wasn't stupid. Why would she wanna chill now?
They met up at one of the more upscale cafes in the city. India was already seated at a table, her long nails tapping against her phone as she waited. She looked up when Destiny approached, her face lighting up with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Hey, girl!" India stood, giving Destiny a quick hug. "Glad you could make it."
Destiny forced a smile as she sat down across from her. "Yeah, for sure. Been a minute."
They made small talk at first, catching up on life and work. India talked about her latest business ventures, while Destiny kept things vague, mentioning only that she'd been busy with work.
But underneath the surface, the tension was there. It was subtle little things like the way India's eyes lingered on her too long, or how her smile seemed a little too tight.
As they sipped on their drinks, the silence between them grew heavier.
"So..." India finally spoke, leaning back in her chair. "You and Von been hanging out a lot lately, huh?"
Destiny raised an eyebrow, taken aback by the directness of the question. "Uh, yeah. We've been cool for a while."
India nodded slowly, stirring her iced coffee. "I figured. Just noticed it on social media, you know? Y'all look cute."
Destiny felt her stomach twist at the mention of social media. She knew exactly what India was referring to she and Von had posted a picture from the arcade, and the post had gotten more attention than she'd anticipated. Including, apparently, from India.
"Yeah, we've just been kicking it," Destiny replied, keeping her tone light. "Nothing serious."
India smiled, but there was something off about it.
"That's good. You know, Von's a cool guy. But you gotta be careful, especially with everything going on."
Destiny's eyes narrowed slightly. "What do you mean?"
India shrugged, her gaze steady. "I'm just saying... things in Chicago are messy. And when you're hanging around certain people, it can get even messier. You know how it is."
