ꜱᴀꜱᴋɪᴀ ᴘᴇʀꜱᴘᴇᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ

"Think happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts..." I repeat the words like a mantra as I cautiously creep my way across the narrow parapet.

Eighteen inches is just comical at this point. I manage to keep up with the scrawny boy infront of me but still maintaining a safe distance.

Steady breathing equals steady path.

"And you think you could be a dragon rider?" I hear the unmistakable voice of Jack viciously mocking Violet in the distance, the whipping wind muffling most of what was going on ahead.

"Some Sorrengail you are, with that kind of balance. I pity whatever wing you end up in." He ruthlessly continues and I can't help but feel disappointed with my brother.

I love you Jack but please learn to shut the hell up.

This insanely narrow stone tight-rope like bridge is going to be the death of me.

Though, I do understand this challenge because if one cannot cross the parapet then how in the seven hells would someone be able to ride a dragon and engage in active combat?

I don't know the statistics but what I do know is that the death rate is up there, claiming lives left and right with no remorse.

I take one cautious step at a time but never look down nor look back, ensuring my breathing remains steady.

The harsh howling winds don't show any mercy to me, almost knocking me off my balance numerous times.

One time I swear I almost went off balance completely due to some crumbling mortar just barely regaining my footing.

The heavy rain lashing down lessens the visibility to a point where I feel as blind as a bat, taking one overly cautious step at a time.

A ghost of a smile cracks on my lips as the Riders Quadrant seems within reach, just a little more to go. The massive stone staircase of the citadel rising up the base of the mountain.

I can do this.

Taking three tiny steps onwards as I come to a halt, squinting my eyes at the thin boy infront of me, looking to be at the quarter mark.

My brows furrow in confusion as dread begins to pool at the pit of my stomach, my throat suddenly tightening up and breathing is suddenly difficult.

The scrawny boy infront of me wobbling uncontrollably all over the place like a newborn deer just getting used to it's long weak legs.

Only now do I notice my brother who has also come to a complete stop, towering over the thin guy. It all happens within the span of five seconds yet it feels like I'm watching it all unfold in slo-mo.
