ꜱᴀꜱᴋɪᴀ ᴘᴇʀꜱᴘᴇᴄᴛɪᴠᴇ

"You won't leave my side at any costs, understand?" Jack's stern voice rips me out of my dazed state of staring blankly ahead at all the other hopeful young adults preparing for the deadly entry of the college.

"We've already been over this." I playfully roll my eyes as I nudge him gently with my elbow in a weak attempt at soothing his buzzing worries of me when he should be thinking of himself.

"I'm serious, Saski- One wrong step and you'll be dead! You don't seem to grasp the severity of the situation." The towering ox scowls, his sharp optics narrowing down at me with disapproval partnered with the subtle shake of his head.

"It's not too late to just turn away-" But I cut his sentence off.

Without another word, I pull Jack into a long hug.

"What the fuck are you doing?" His words were as harsh as a whip but his voice were nothing short of soft and gentle as his hands rests on the small of my back, not pulling away from the embrace.

"I'm scared of going through with this but I'm more scared of you leaving me alone with mother and father." I confess in a hushed tone.

Jack's body goes as stiff as a board at my chilling words though only seconds later his shoulders sag, his long arms wrapping tightly around me.

Pulling me in too tight that I almost couldn't breathe but I make no protest, afterall this could be our last hug if things go south on the parapet.

"I'll never leave you on your own, I promise." He vows sincerely before we set off to where our glory will begin.

Or our deaths.

Conscription day, what bliss. Kidding- it's actually overwhelmingly daunting that makes me shudder at the mere thought yet my brother is buzzing with eagerness to walk the tight-rope like stone path.

I heard the parapet is only eighteen inches thick, a prominent frown anchors the corners of my mouth as the mental image flashes in my mind.

I suppose its a good thing that my balance is not half bad but its helpful that the mostly empty rucksack clinging off my back felt as light as a feather. Jack had told me to give most of the heavy things to him claiming that he could take the extra weight.

"Stay by me." Jack mutters into my ear before rising back to his full height perched right next to me like an oversized gaurd dog. Not giving any leeway for anyone to approach us.
