After ILAND ended, Tomie did not go back to YG. At least not immediately. Survival shows take a large tole on participants and Tomie that she would not be able to handle going back to her trainee life as if nothing happened. So instead, Tomie spent her days at home. The hours she used to spend training was now being spent enjoying her life. Being able to sleep in, go out with friends, and be home during the day.

During her birthday month, Tomie's mother and sisters flew to Korea. It was a visit-turned-vacation. Tomie jumped up when she heard the news and gathered all of the money she had saved to make plans with her mother and sisters.

During her birthday party, Tomie's mother and her new husband, Tong, approached Tomie. The husband hid his gift behind his back.

"Happy birthday Tomie," he hugs her and hands her his gift. "Thank you, Tong," she smiles. "Open it, I think you'll really like it. I asked your sisters what you'd like."

Tomie was taught that opening presents when you receive them is rude so she looked at her mother who just smiled. Her eyes widened as she took out a shoebox from the gift bag. The brand name was all too familiar to her. In the shoebox laid the most beautiful pair of pointe shoes Tomie had ever seen. This brand was expensive but made high-quality and durable pointe shoes that Tomie has talked about a few times. She thanked Tong for such a wonderful gift.

"They are very pretty right?" Tomie nodded her head. "I hoped that I would be able to see you dance in them. Now that you're not training anymore, are going back to ballet full-time?" he asked.

"I didn't stop training," Tomie corrected him. "I'm just taking a short break, but I'm going to keep training under YG."

"Tomie, I know you said you wanted to do this and you know that I will always support you," her mother began. "But is this what you want to do? You can continue doing ballet like before. There are so many wonderful ballet schools in China."

Tomie's mood turned sour. She was happy at first but now felt the conversation was taking the joy away from the event. "Mom, I don't want to live in China with you. There's nothing there for me."

"We're there, baby. Is it criminal to want my daughter to be with me?" "I don't want to talk about this right now, Mom. It's my birthday."

But no matter how much Tomie pleaded, her mother didn't stop. When her mother was moving to China, she begged to live with her father because she didn't want to move to a foreign country like China and live there. Korea was her second home and there was no better place for her than there. At first, she seemed to have respected Tomie's choice, but now she wants to go back and persuade Tomie to leave Seoul to live with her.
