"And what if I die oneday?" The 13 year old Ruhi dresses in her white floral print frock with two bunnies pouting in her hairband, couldn't help but ask.
Life is a game. This cliche have been heared many times but today as we were playing the boardgame with four different coloured tokens, I couldn't help but wonder what if just like this game, someone steps over us and kills us, just for the little joy to win.
Her hands stopped counting the number of blocks with the blue token held gently between her fingers and she looked at me.
The furrow of her brows, the slight gap between her lips and her stilled hands showed me how much these fake senerios of mine affects her.
"How many times I have tell you not to say such things." Her nose becomes red whenever she gets angry or cries.
I blinked. "But di what if someone really stepped over us and sends us to heaven?" I still continued because annoying her was my personal favourite pastime. I spend my 11 months and 2 weeks at my parent's house and the remaining two weeks? The remaining two weeks with my sister. 'Just two weeks' I complained. 'Whole two weeks' she replied.
She stands, pushing her chair a little, careful enough not to make much noice, because her Hitler father just fell asleep.
"Reply na di" I forced her and she immediately came by my side, engulfing me in her warm arms.
"God forbid, but if it happens someday, I will be up there to engulf you in my arms."
*Flashback ends.
My sobs died a bitter chuckle and then returned with a full cry.
A cry derived not form the will to live, but to be able to meet my sister, for once. To see, that she is still alive and safe and happy. I don't know whether I should be happy that there's a chance I can meet her up there or be afraid of being her up there?
The whistle of train echoed again, this time much nearer, alongwith the sound of train running on the tracks . I shut my eyes tightly ready to embrace the inevitable.
But the only thing echoed next was the clash of metal. I opened my eyes to see the black shadow carved under the shining full moon. My eyes widened when I saw the axe rising and aiming at my wrist again. I clasped my eyes shut when the axe hit the metallic lock again.
I was too gone to form coherent words and the face wasn't visible either but considering the long strands that flows on either side of it, it was a girl.
I narrowed my eyes. And then noticed the axe in her hand and she aimed at my metal locks again, my eyes shut close accordingly.
What in the hell is this happening?
I opened my eyes again and she looked at my face.
"Good to see you afraid, for once!" My eyes widened and mouth open agape as I recognised the person.
"Ira?" The name barely escaped my lips before being drowned by another whistle. And this time, I could see the blurry lights of the engine.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" She didn't spare me a glance and continued hitting on the metallic locks.
"Trying to save your stupid ass, I guess." She is still focused on her sassy remarks right now.
"Aaahhhhh......Careful with my wrists!" I hissed when she missed it by a mere centimetre.
"I'd rather be careful with your life. Agar ek aadha wrist chli bhi jaaye toh I won't mind." I narrowed my eyes at the adamant girl and she only continued with her work.
(If half a wrist gets hurt, I won't mind.)
