Chapter 16

Max's POV:

I wake up at 6:30 to my phone ringing. It's been two days since JJ left to solve a case. I look at my phone to see a call from JJ I ignore it. Everything has been weird. I've been ignoring JJ the only people I talk to besides Caleb and Sarah, are Will and Henry. I get up and take a quick shower. I am officially off of my punishments today. I walk downstairs to see Henry at the table eat and Will making breakfast.

"Hey sweetheart how'd you sleep?" Will asks handing me a plate of pancakes

"Good I was wondering if you'd mind if I go hang out at the library today?" I ask lying

"Sure want me to drop you off on my way to work?" He asks smiling

"Sure let me go get dress." I say hugging him

I go upstairs and quickly get dressed. I text Sarah and Miles to meet me at the library. I quickly put on my makeup. I grab my sketchpad before heading downstairs. Once I reach the kitchen I see Henry and Will waiting in the car. I quickly put my shoes on before heading out to the car.

"Okay sweetheart text me when you want me to pick you up. JJ says you still ain't answering her she'll be home today. I will be out of work around 5." Will says kissing my head as I get out giving him a hug

I quickly get out rushing into the library. Once I see Miles and Sarah I quickly hug them smiling. I am happy that the group is finally back together. Even though we are sneaking around JJ's back. Even though my punishments are over I'm still not supposed to hang out with Miles and Sarah. JJ and Will think I should make some new friends when school starts back up.

"I missed you guys!" I say happily

"I missed you too! Sorry I couldn't come with you guys to the pier. My mom was being a real drill sergeant. You know how she can be." Miles says explaining

"I'm glad the group is back together. We can be crazy without you here to tame us Miles." Sarah says laughing

"I have until 5 that's when Will should be back." I say sadly

"Why don't we go to our secret room in the back and watch a movie?" Miles suggests

"I brought snacks. They might have a little something in them." Sarah says hinting

"Well it should have time to wear off before we leave. If JJ finds out she'll banned me from leaving my room. I maybe ten but I've been through a lot." I sigh saying

"How's things been between you two? You guys talk yet?" Sarah asks curiously

"Nope. I'm not saying anything til she tries to understand why we did what we did." I say rubbing my face

"When will she be back?" Sarah asks knowing we won't be able to hang for a couple days til she leaves again

"Tonight apparently." I say shrugging

"Come on let's go relax." Miles says grabbing my hand

We go out back and put on "It Chapter 1" it's one of our favorite movies. Once the movie starts we bite into the brownies. I instantly feel my body start to relax. Every worry or anxious thought I had about JJ arriving today left my body. I lay down and just watch the movie. Sarah and Miles always have my back knowing what I need.
