Chapter 30

Max's pov:

I just finished school. I was about to walk back to my house Miles, Sarah, and Henry stop me.

"Hey guys how was class?" I ask

"It was great until Beatrice showed up." Sarah says annoyed at the girl who's been bullying her since second grade

"She showed up at your class too?" I ask shocked knowing she came into my first period to bother me since we had substitutes today

"She also show up at mine." Miles says raising his hand

"What is her deal who does she think she is?" I ask confused

"She asked me a bunch of question asking all about you two." Henry says innocently

"Same." Miles says making me and Sarah look at each other worriedly

"We should tell her to back off!" I say getting mad

"Whatever let's deal with this later. Shouldn't we get Henry home before JJ and Will worry?" Sarah asks making Miles nod

"Oh yeah let's go." I say

"I can't believe how much homework I have." Sarah says annoyed

"I was going to have some but I finished it all in study hall." I state calmly

"Well wanna get Subway and then eat at my place?" I ask

"Sure!" Sarah and Miles say at the same time

We all get in the Uber and get subway. I pass Miles the bag to hold. I plug in my phone playing "Creep" by Radiohead. I look and see Sarah smiling. This song is mine and hers. Anytime I had nightmares we'd sing this song loudly it'd wake her mom up. Once we make sure Miles has all the sandwiches for everyone including Henry, JJ, and Will we head back to the house.

Sarah's POV:

Once we pull up into the driveway Max, Miles, Henry and I all run inside. I start to smile thinking about how we've always raced inside anywhere we went. I look back to make sure Miles still has the sandwiches. Once I see that he does we walk inside. Once we head into the kitchen I see JJ and Will at the table smiling.

"Hey guys we have subway we got you guys some! Do you guys mind if Miles and I eat in Max's room?" I ask smiling

"Yeah sure! Thank you guys for picking up Henry today for Pre K. Will and I was gonna but we couldn't t get out of work early enough too." JJ says smiling appreciatively

We all make it up stairs and go into Max's room Max, Miles, and I are on her bed. While Henry, JJ, and Will are downstairs at the kitchen table eating. I put on "Video Games" by Lana Del Ray. As the music is quietly playing in the background we all begin to eat.

"How was the car ride with JJ to school this morning?" I ask Max

"Henry and I listened to music. No one talked. So it was really quiet." Max answers

"Do you think you guys should get to know one another more? I know you won't admit it but you want to know her more." Miles says

"Yeah Max you say crap about her all the time but I remember how you used to cry for her." I say

"Max you used to tell Henry all the time on what life was like without her and sure there was bad but there was also good moments." Miles says

"Are you saying I should act like nothing happen? Give her a clean slate? Fresh start for all of us?" I ask

"No Max I think we are saying that you should hear her out. I mean shouldn't you know why she did what she did? Everytime somebody asks why she did that you always lie or act like you don't hear them asking you." Miles says

"I don't know if I'm ready for that conversation." Max says looking at the floor

"Well ready or not I know as soon as we leave JJ is gonna try to clear the air between the two of you." Miles says

"Well good thing you are spending the night I have one more night before I have that bullshit talk." Max says

"Should we tell JJ and Will that we are spending the night?" I ask

"Sure how about Miles goes and asks them since he seemed to be their buddy earlier. You should have seen it he wouldn't stop talking to them. It was like he them her for years. It was crazy." I say rolling my eyes

"Yeah would you mind doing that Miles?" Max asks

"Sure I'll be right back I'll let you know what they say." Miles says as he head downstairs

"I'm bored Max sing that song JJ used to sing you that you used to sing to me when I had a nightmare I think it was "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls." I say excitedly

"Why that one?" Max asks confused

"It's what JJ used to sing to you as a baby. Anytime you had nightmares and she was home. She would climb into your bed hold you to her chest and sing it til you went back to sleep." I say

Max gets up and grabs her guitar from her room. Once she grabs it she brings it on the bed since we're all spending the night in her room. I look at Max and she nods. Once she starts to play I sing the song and right after we finish Miles enters back into my room. He looks at Max and I with an impressed impression.

"Hey guys they said it was cool. Sarah and Max that was beautiful!" Miles says as he sits back down on the floor near Max's feet putting his arm around her legs

"Well guys I think we should put on a movie and call it night it's already nine and we have to be up early so I can have that talk before with JJ before school." Max says rolling her eyes

Miles gets on the floor in a sleeping bag. Max and I are sharing my bed. We put on the movie and not even five minutes later everyone is sleeping. I see JJ enter the room kissing Max's forehead. I pretend I'm asleep before she can try and talk to me. I watch her turn off the tv before leaving to her and Will's room. I sigh thinking how tomorrow is gonna go at school. I close my eyes letting sleep take me over.
