"You're going to stay with me, right?" She had her chin resting on his chest, tears resting in the brims of her eyes as she stared up at his sweet face.
It had been a long time since either of them had felt that much passion. It was lust and love, but built up anger and resentment all at once. It was intoxicating.
Twenty years of needing and yearning for one another had come to a head and everything they had ever really wondered about their relationship was answered... They still wanted each other and no one else they had been with had ever been able to completely fill that void.
He really made her feel like she was twenty five years old again, even though her body had changed and she'd aged, which made her a little bit self conscious.
But to him, she was still the woman that he had always adored.
Stevie still had the freckles on her chest, the dimple on her shoulder, and the scar across her tummy from the birth of their youngest... She was was still every bit as stunning as she had always been and he couldn't let it go unnoticed. So he told her ten times over how beautiful she was and for the first time in a long time, she believed that.
"Well," Lindsey glanced down, eyes melting right into hers as he let the tips of his fingers graze her back. "I didn't plan on going anywhere tonight." He assured with a little grin, using his other hand to wipe away some of her tears.
Nodding her head, she pressed her lips to his chest, not sure if she even remembered the last time she felt that beautiful or desirable... He still gave her butterflies. "I can make dinner and we can watch movies, or we can just come back to bed..." she really didn't want him to leave her, not after what they had just shared and she was willing to do what it took to get him to spend the night.
Twisting his hand in her blonde hair, he couldn't take his eyes off her as he thought about it for a second. "Why don't we order dinner?" Lindsey didn't want her to get up and cook for the next hour... He wanted to hold her instead.
She giggled lightly, eyes falling closed as she felt him rub her back through the silk sheet. "We have to get up to-"
"A few more minutes..?" His voice was soft, not ready to let her go just yet.
Lindsey had dated other women, obviously, but he'd never seen a real future with any of them, not even Carol Ann, who he had spent years with. And for a long time, he honestly thought it was just because he didn't want any more kids and every woman he'd gone out with did... Thinking about it in the moment, he realized that maybe it wasn't that and maybe it had never been that; maybe it was just the fact that no one else was Stevie.
She had such a hold on him, it was insane.
So much so, he wasn't sure he could ever fully love someone the way he loved her, even if he had spent the last two decades being upset at her for just walking out on them... Nothing had ever really changed.
She reached up, still looking into those big blue orbs as she carefully traced the curve of his lips with the tips of her fingers. "Mhm," she nodded once more before her eyes fell closed and she turned her head to the side to lay on his chest.
She listened to the sound of his heart beating for a long time, eyes remaining closed and mind working at a mile a minute... She didn't know what was going to happen from that moment on, but she felt so content in his arms.
She felt at home.
Anyway, that being said, they stayed curled up together for another hour before they decided to crawl out of bed and travel back into the other room, where the record had stopped spinning long ago and the sun had already set.
"You're so cute..." Lindsey reached out, lightly tugging at the hem of her silk nightgown as she led the way into the kitchen.
Tossing her head back, she allowed a deep, almost shy laugh to fill the air around them. "Oh, please." She shook her head softly, pausing in the doorway when she felt his hand creep around her waist and pull her in from behind. "Hi..." she whispered in a teasing manner as she tilted her head to the side to look at him out of the corner of her eye.
If you had seen them that night, you would have never thought they shared such a complicated past.
He pressed a couple of soft kisses to the curve of her neck as he kept his hand on her tummy. "I've missed you so much." Lindsey was feeling a little more sentimental than he had in long time and telling her those kind of things just felt so right.
She closed her eyes for a moment, rubbing the tip of her nose back and forth across his for a second. "I've missed you, baby." Her voice was so gentle and so weak, feeling like she just putty in his hands.
"I wish it had been different for us." His admitted as eyes scanned over her face, watching her long lashes flutter.
She had grown so comfortable that she was almost limp in his arms, letting him hold her up. "What do you think would have happened if life hadn't been so cruel...?" She creased a brow, finally showing him the look that lingered in those big brown orbs. "Hm?" She hummed, gaze traveling the outline of his handsome face before she stopped to look at his lips... She just wanted him to kiss her again.
He paused for a moment, heart starting to beat a little bit faster than before as he thought about how he wanted to respond to that. "I would have married you." Lindsey told her, swallowing hard as he started to grow a little emotional. "In another world, we would have taken our kids away from that scene and we would have been happy with just each other."'
