This girl had me going crazy. Wednesday, she showed up to school and got in my face, then acted all shy, only to return to being guarded.

Thursday, she was at Biddies, looking for a job. When she noticed me sitting at a table with Gibsie, Hughie and Feely, she walked over.

"Jonathan," She acknowledged.

"Missy, this is Gibsie, my best mate. That's Hughie and Feely," I introduced them. Her eyes lingered on Gibsie. "Lads, this is Melissa."

"Hi," She politely greeted, while they also told her hello, before turning back to me. "Hi," She repeated awkwardly.

"Missy." I could feel myself smiling at her sudden shyness. "Not so confident now, huh?"

She flushed red, with furrowed brows. "Whatever."

I had to hold back a laugh from how fucking funny she looked, like she was fighting herself on having another argument with me.

"Lynch Vicious." Gibsie held out his hand for her to shake, being well out of it already. She did just that with a nod and an intense look.

"I need a job here," She told me. "Do you know who I have to talk to?" Her voice was more gentle now that we weren't in a heated situation.

She was more confident when sticking up for someone, I realised. Naturally, she was shy.

"Right over there," I pointed to the bar owner. "How old are you anyway?"

"Almost seventeen." She played with a strand of hair that fell over her shoulder. Thank fuck she was only a year younger than me.

Woah. Why did I even care?

"Hey, is your hair usually brown?" I asked once I noticed some blonde peeking through at her roots.

"I'm blonde. I dye it," Her guard went up again, I could tell.

"Why?" I still pushed. Not a smart move, eejit.

"None of your business, Snoopy," She scoffed. "Do you know if, err, Tag Brady hangs around here?"

"Brady hangs around in the bar around the corner," Hughie answered bitterly before I could think. "He's not allowed in here."

"Okay, thanks." She nodded. "I'm going for it."

"Going for what?" I smiled at her sudden declaration.

"A job here." She turned and walked towards the man I pointed at earlier.

"You were right, Gibsie," I said, still staring at her.

"Hell yeah, I am!" He boasted. "About what, though?"

"She's getting in my head," I answered.

One second she was all smiley, and the other she was a defensive cannon.

That was Missy. A cheery, timid girl, but protective when it came to her sister or her personal life.

They were all wrong about her. They'd only seen her come through when she was standing up for Shannon, because that was the only time she was visible to them.

They were wrong, because she wasn't vicious. She was the sweetest girl.
