Notes: Do I really need this part? Nope but here we are..... set after Flashbacks 🥲.It was another peacefully normal day and Mike had decided to take Kenji to work with him as Ben really was not interested in his work as a lawyer. Kenji of course was happy to spend time with Mike but definitely forgot the social norms. You see when he entered the work place Kenji was immediately reminded of his father and all of the different important people he would have to impress so of course his attitude immediately changed.
It was when Mike introduced Kenji to a work friend that he first noticed his change in demeanour. Kenji acted like this was a job, he didn't act like a kid at all. Mike's work friend chuckled when he mentioned how Kenji acted, saying that he was like a CEO already.
Mike got a feeling that something was wrong eventhough he couldn't point out quite what it was.
The next day the family were eating lunch and when they were placing their dishes next to the sink Kenji managed to knock over a glass ornament on one of the shelves.
There was a loud smash and then sudden silence.
"Oh Kenji are you alright honey?!" Juliet said, clearly concerned.
Kenji could hear them speaking. "Kenji? Hey it's alright....?" Mike was saying and Ben's voice was somewhere in the background but his vision was blurred and his heart was racing.
"Kenji?" Mike said, cautiously, he put a hand on Kenji's shoulder. Kenji flinched and Mike quickly pulled his hand back, sending a worried look over to his wife then looking to Ben seemingly for answers.
Ben looked ready to cry but he simply got up from the kitchen table and moved to stand next to his boyfriend.
"Kenj it's okay, it's okay, you're safe." Ben told him but his words didn't appear to get through to him.
Kenji stopped staring at the wall in shock to stare at the pile of glass on the floor. When Ben trued to move him safely away from the shards of glass he panicked.
"No I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to! I'll clean it up I'm sorry! I'll be better. I promise I'll be better. I'm too clumsy. I'm sorry. Sorry sorry sorry!" Kenji was rambling and yelling, Fear prominent in his expression.
To their horror Kenji had started to pick to glass up with his hands in a panic, kneeling on the floor, hyperventilating and flinching at every sign of movement.
Ben put his arm out infront of his father and looked at him, clearly communicating he should stay away. But his mother immediately rushed over to Kenji and grabbed him, pulling him away from the broken shards of glass as gently as she could.
Kenji just stayed still closing his eyes tightly like he was waiting for a hit. But all he felt was arms wrapping around him in a warm embrace. He started to hear murmured words again and he felt someone slowly lifting his wrists.
He opened his eyes to see Mrs Pincus carefully looking at his hands, searching for shards of glass. Mike then came over with tweezers to pick them out. Ben sat by his side as his parents cleaned Kenji's bloody hands with teary eyes.
They all understood what had happened and didn't ask any questions. They assured him that he was safe and he could always talk to them and rely on them for anything he needed.
Kenji was definitely shaky for awhile after but everything eventually drifted back into that peacefulness he loved. It was the kind of peace that held all the silence and the chaos and cheer and warmth together.
