Aunt Mae ❤

Notes: Oh wow what a surprise this is set immediately after Broken Glass.

It truly was amazing too Kenji how caring Juliet and Mike were. He knew eventually they would become like parents to him, it was too soon for that right now of course, he has only been there for two months. But somehow they gave still already been through quite a bit together.

It's Saturday and Mike asked a question about one of the inside jokes Ben and Kenji were talking about. They immediately grinned and Juliet got called over so they could share stories from their times on the islands.

"Hey what about that time we couldn't get supplies because you failed maths!"

"No no I did very well actually and how was I supposed to know he'd change the code!?"

"Pfff I'm sorry It's too funny!"

"Okay well how about when Darius ate the-"

"Oh God that was Disgusting! Pffhahaha that smart-ass!"

"Oh remember when bumpy are my dinner?!"

"Yes! That was brilliant!"

"Who is bumpy?" Juliet asked.

"Oh she- she..." Ben tried to answer her question but his throat closed up and his heart ached.

"Ben it's okay remember Aunt Mae said we could always facetime if you wanted. We could even visit if we really wanted to Benny." Kenji told him, a hand rubbing his back comfortingly.

"Okay. Thanks Kenj um Mum is it alright if we call Aunt- a friend?" Ben asked anxiously but his mum nodded and said "of course.".

They went upstairs to Ben's room and Kenji found Mae's number then connected his phone to the computer. It took a couple minutes but eventually Mae picked up the phone, apologising for the wait saying she was feeding Pearce.

"Hey Mae!" The boys yelled enthusiastically and Mae smiled widely as she saw their happy faces. 

"Hiya Kenji, Ben! It's great to see you again and safe this time. Are you both doing good?" Mae said whilst simultaneously handing a strangely round and spiky dinosaur a bundle of leaves and grasses.

"We're good Mae but is it alright if you could show us Bumpy?" Kenji asked politely.

"Of course Boys infact I actually have her next on my schedule! So I can take you over right now!" Mae said excitedly, heading over to a nearby vehicle.

"That would be great thank you Mae." Ben thanked her. They chatted about life and how the dinosaurs have been for twenty minutes until Mae reached where the Ankylosaurus's were resting.

Ben talked to Bumpy for hours and she listened and sometimes showed him a new plant of friend every now and then. Mae was somewhere not too far away doing her research on the Ankylosaurus's when she noticed the time. It was getting late so she walked back over to her tablet to tell them, she was walking towards them from behind so they didn't know she was in earshot of their conversation.

"Do you think Aunt Mae would help us organise a visit?" Ben asked.
"Yeah of course it's Aunt Mae!" Kenji said.

Mae was confused, who are they talking about? She had heard them talk about family before but never had she heard of an Aunt May/Mae. And both of them were calling her Aunt May/Mae so was it a non blood relative? She had always been a bit nosy so she purposefully listened in for a few more seconds.

"okay we'll ask her when she gets back then." Ben carried on the conversation. There was a sad silence then kenji started speaking again, "I'm so glad I have so many wonderful people in my life." He said. "Me too." Ben said quietly, almost a whisper of contentment. "And eventhough we have been through so much, I'd do it all over again to be here, to have met you and Aunt Mae and the others and to have a family again." Kenji said causing tears to run down Mae's cheeks. A sad sniff alerted them of her presence.

"Mae?" They asked as she appeared infront of the screen. "Oh boys, I love you both so much okay." She cried, smiling at the two teenagers warmly, "And please do come and visit. We really miss you here.".

"We love you too Aunt Mae."
